From Friday Night Lights to Family Nights
Life with the Nesmiths
In the heart of Glen Oaks, where the streets echo with kids’ laughter and the sound of dogs barking in the distance, lives a family who values watching those kids grow alongside their own. Meet the Nesmith family: Peter, Ann, and their three kids, Katelyn, Conner, and Vera.
The Nesmiths are a family rooted in connection, adventure, and Friday Night Lights. Son Conner is a junior at North Oldham High School, where he plays varsity football. As an All-District starting wide receiver and defensive back, he helped lead the team to its first District Championship since 2014, a proud moment for the whole family. With medical school on his radar, Conner balances athletics, friendships, and his academic drive.
Katelyn, the oldest, graduated from North Oldham in 2023 and is now a junior at the University of Kentucky. She’s majoring in Integrated Strategic Communications with a minor in Digital Media, a perfect fit for her creative spirit. When Katelyn isn’t studying or serving at Harry’s in Lexington, she spends her summers at home working at Big Spring Country Club.
Vera, the youngest, is in Pre-K at Oldham County Preschool. Her days are filled with Paw Patrol, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Frozen sing-a-longs, and a budding love for K-pop.
“When it's not high school football season, which basically spans from July through November, we love to travel,” Peter said. “We enjoy family ski trips and have been to Vail, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Park City.” Their favorite destination, however, is much more relaxing: Daufuskie Island, South Carolina. The island, near Hilton Head, is only accessible by boat and doesn’t allow cars. The Nesmiths have visited three times and enjoy exploring the island by golf cart, lounging by the pool, and soaking up the beach. “We prefer rest and relaxation while on vacation,” Ann said. “And we love the restaurants and culture there, too!”
At home, family-favorite meals consist of Philly cheesesteaks or cast-iron steaks. In the background, you’ll likely find sports on their TV unless it’s a Big Brother night, as they’re big fans of the reality TV series. The family roots for the Kentucky Wildcats (though Ann’s allegiance to U of L has led to a house divided), the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Dallas Cowboys.
Peter is from Henderson, Kentucky, and attended the University of Kentucky. He spent 17 years in Lexington before relocating to Prospect in 2011. Peter has been a steady presence and accomplished sales leader in the mortgage banking world since 2001. As a Market Leader for Luminate Bank, headquartered in Minneapolis, he brings both experience and a passion for helping families achieve their dream of homeownership.
Ann, originally from Lebanon, Kentucky, attended the University of Louisville for undergraduate studies and the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. As a dentist, she is a familiar face in Carrollton, where she has owned and operated Carrollton Family Dentistry since 2017. Her practice is more than a business; it’s a cornerstone of local wellness where patients feel at ease with Ann’s genuine compassion and chairside manner.
The Nesmiths have lived in Glen Oaks since 2011. In fact, their home on Laurel Lane is their second home in the neighborhood. Among the many things they love about the community are the Halloween festivities and the magic of Santa Claus on Laurel Lane in December. Their favorite neighborhood memory is watching their kids make lifelong friends and seeing their home become a hub for hangouts and laughter.
The Nesmith family is proud to call Glen Oaks home. “We love it here,” Peter said. “It’s a peaceful, safe neighborhood, and it’s only 5 to 10 minutes from most everything you need.”
Whether you’re passing Ann and Peter on a walk with their teddy bear dog named Bubba or cheering beside them at a football game, the Nesmiths are the kind of family who make Glen Oaks special. Say hello next time you see them. You’ll be glad you did.
