Come Along with The Jones Family
Stroll GP: Sarah, you and Garret have built a rewarding life here in Asheville, with your girls, Anna and Vada. As a partner in Asheville Women’s Medical Center, you help to improve the lives of countless women!
I love that I am able to empower and care for women as a career. Especially here in Western NC. I grew up in WNC (Wilkes Co) and it means so much to serve this community. OBGYN is a very unique specialty that allows you to follow women through so many stages of their life and I do not take that for granted. Garret started a new job at the girls’ school this year which keeps us very invested in this community. They have loved having him at school and he got award “honorary dad” from Vada’s class this year.
Stroll GP: The girls, Anna and Vada are young achievers, how do you keep up with them!
We are so proud of them! They love being active and it reminds us how important sports and after-school activities were in our childhood. I played basketball and tennis growing up. Garret and I were able to help coach Vada’s basketball team this year. We love being able to walk up to the Grove Park Inn and play tennis with the girls (another amazing part of this neighborhood). We do have a lot of help from our neighbors and the wonderful ladies who help us with child care, Ella and Gisele.
Outside of sports, Anna’s favorite after school activity is “Amigos in the Mountains” which is a Spanish through Music class. Vada loves participating in her schools drama club and annual musical.
Stroll GP: And your London trip last July… what were some unforgettable moments?
I know we should say seeing the sites, but my favorite part was seeing the girls navigate new things like the underground train or trying new foods. They loved the pasta so much the chef took them into the back to show them how it was made! I think Vada and Anna would say touring London on a Peppa the Pig tea party bus or feeding farm animals in the Cotswolds was their favorite. Mom and Dad crossed off a bucket list item by going to Wimbledon!
Stroll GP: Garret, you are a Fly Fisherman, what does your ultimate fly fishing day look like? Favorite dry flies and nymphs? Asking for a friend….
Ultimate fly fishing day is hiking up to a brook trout creek where no one else goes. Or red fishing on the flats in South Carolina. I guess if you really wanted to, you could do both in one day. I’ll usually fish an Adam’s for the brook trout. For everything else around here, I’ll run a Dry Dropper rig with a Chubby up top and a France Fly below it.
Stroll GP: Your Porch Goose is delightfully charming and what a wardrobe!
We love how much joy it has brought to the neighborhood! I constantly get neighbors saying how they always look forward to seeing what the goose will have on this week or month!
Stroll GP: What does “home” in Grove Park mean for your family?
We are so happy to be in this neighborhood, surrounded by friends and neighbors that start to feel more like family. I grew up on a farm, 30 minutes from my school and always wanted my kiddos to have the ability to walk to school or a friend’s house. I know I can ask so many of my neighbors to help out in any way if I am stuck at the hospital.
TELL US YOUR FAMILY FAVORITES
- Hangout Spot - New Belgium grassy area on Fridays
- Dog Destination - we love walking the neighborhood with our dogs. It is the perfect stroll for our aging dogs.
- Restaurants - Taco Temple, Mountain Madre, and looking forward to enjoying the Majestic!
- TV Show - we LOVE watching “Is it cake?” as a family. The girls are so good at guessing and I love hearing their logic.
- Movie - After London we have loved Paddington.
- Books - I really enjoy historical fiction. Kate Quinn is an author who finds ways to tell really interesting female stories in historical times when women were not necessarily written about. Oh, and I recently read Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett and didn’t want it to end!! I immediately want to read it again.
