The Harris Family: Where Community Shines Brightest
Five years ago, Ashley and Nick Harris made the move to Hallsley, and they’ve been all in ever since. What drew them in? “The people,” Ashley says without hesitation. “We’ve been able to build very strong friendships with so many neighbors, allowing us to give and receive so much support.” For the Harris family, Hallsley isn’t just a neighborhood - it’s community in the truest sense.
Nick, born in Atlanta and raised in rural Chesterfield, now works as a founding Technology Executive for an AI-based caregiver support business named Charlie Check. Ashley, originally from Naugatuck, Connecticut, is a Toxicologist who earned her PhD in Integrative Life Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University. Nick received his MBA and Certificate in Sustainability from MIT. Together, they’ve built a life centered on growth, connection, and intention.
Their family includes adult children Jasmine, Alexander, and Gabrielle—each working or attending college full time, and their eight-month-old, Zaya, who currently enjoys her favorite hobby: attempting to eat books. (A true future scholar in the making.)
At home on Fleetwood Road, the Harrises have created a space designed for gathering. With a large back porch, pool, and outdoor kitchen, their home is often the setting for relaxed evenings with neighbors. Whether it’s hosting cocktail hour, sharing a meal, or simply sitting poolside after a long day, they value creating moments that bring people together.
When they’re not entertaining, you’ll likely find them outdoors. Fitness and exploring nature are shared passions, from hiking local trails to apple picking at Carter Mountain. Travel is another love language for the Harris family—they’ve visited more than 10 countries in the past five years. Their favorite destinations tend to include warm weather and water, with Jamaica, the Amalfi Coast, and the French Riviera topping their list. What they cherish most about travel is engaging in culture—the people, music, cuisine, and yes, the occasional refreshing spirit.
Sports and entertainment also play a role in their downtime. Nick enjoys golf, basketball, and cars. As a family, they cheer for “LeBron James” (their favorite team, as they like to joke), along with the Atlanta Falcons and Braves. Their watch list leans toward sci-fi and psychological thrillers, with favorites like Interstellar, Get Out, Us, and shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Suits, Stranger Things, and Ozark. Their playlist? Mostly hip hop and R&B from the mid-90s through early 2010s, with a little jazz, classical, pop, and country mixed in.
Family traditions remain close to their hearts—especially Christmas, when extended family gathers for football, puzzles, endless cookies, and dozens of gifts from Santa. It’s loud, joyful, and full of love.
Beyond Hallsley, the Harrises support programs for disadvantaged children, displaced veterans, and clean water initiatives. Within Hallsley, they deeply appreciate the true friendships they have built. They also love the walkability, the pool and playground, the dog park, and the trails—but it’s the connection that stands out most.
As one neighbor whispered the day they moved in, “The stars seem to shine just a little brighter over Hallsley.”
For the Harris family, that has certainly proven true.
