The Underwoods: Where Are They Now?

Ten years after appearing as our very first featured family, we caught up with the Underwoods to see just how much life can change in a decade.

When Hallsley Living introduced readers to the Underwood family in our inaugural issue, Joshua and Shannon had been Hallsley residents for just two years. They had moved from Kennesaw, Georgia, in August 2014 with daughters Reagan and Aylin, who were entering fourth and first grades.

Fast-forward ten years, and those elementary school girls are now heading off to their senior and freshman years of college!

Some things, however, haven’t changed—especially the girls’ love of lacrosse. Back then, Reagan and Aylin were young athletes playing lacrosse and basketball and swimming for the Hallsley High Tides. Today, both have taken lacrosse to the collegiate level. Reagan plays for the UNC Charlotte Women’s Lacrosse team, while Aylin plays for Roanoke College Women’s Lacrosse.

For Joshua and Shannon, who celebrate 23 years of marriage this November, Hallsley has been the backdrop to an entire season of family life.

Joshua, originally from Franklin County, Virginia, is now a Vice President for the respiratory division of Olympus. An Army veteran and athlete when we first met him, Joshua has also become an avid hunter—and it has turned into a family affair. Reagan and Aylin join him during hunting season, with Chincoteague high on their list of favorite destinations and the Dakotas a favorite for Joshua.

Their arrangement is pretty simple: Joshua and the girls hunt. Shannon cooks it.

Shannon, who grew up in Roswell, Georgia, enjoys gardening, walking Hallsley’s trails and volunteering with the women’s ministry at her church. The family also loves putting their boat in the James River and spending a day together on the water.

And, of course, an Underwood family update wouldn’t be complete without the dogs. In 2016, readers met their two Airedales, Ozzy and Pippa. Today, the canine crew consists of two Drahthaars, Jhett and Vinn, with Vinn joining the family in January.

Looking back at their original feature, there are wonderful little glimpses of the life they were building—fishing in the pond, walking the trails, bike rides, grilling, porch time, and “hammocking” in the backyard.

A decade later, the girls have grown, careers have evolved, sports have turned into college athletics, and new adventures have taken their place alongside old traditions.

But one thing hasn’t changed.
“This home has served us well!”
And perhaps their own simple sign-off says it best:
EST. 2014.
Ten years later, the Underwoods are still home.
