Cub Scout Pack 343 Fun Filled Summer

Cub Scout Pack 343 had an exciting summer with events including a rocket launch, model boat race, bike rodeo, and resident camp.  One of the highlights was taking the 5th grade scouts to resident camp.  This consisted of four days and three nights spent camping near Mentone, AL.  It’s open to rising 4th and 5th grade scouts.  We had five 4th graders, and four 5th graders attend this year along with four adult leaders.  For some of the scouts, this was their first time being away from their parents for a significant amount of time and they all handled it extremely well.  One of the most memorable parts of the trip was the opportunity to take the 5th grade scouts rappelling off a 40-foot tower.  Most of the scouts had never been rappelling and it was challenging to look over the edge of the tower and trust that you were going to be safe.  We had one scout who tried to lean over the edge to start rappelling five different times but was too afraid.  Finally, he got up the nerve on the sixth try and made it!  We had numerous other fun activities at camp including canoeing, swimming, archery, bb-gun shooting, and slingshots.  At the end of the trip, the scouts reflected on their favorite moment at camp.  Surprisingly, the scouts that were afraid of rappelling stated that they enjoyed that activity the most.  It was a great opportunity to overcome their fears and try something new.

Cub Scouts is open to boys and girls in elementary school and Pack 343 is the local Hampton Cove pack.  Pack 343 has lots of fun activities year-round including camping, hiking, bike riding, and model rocket building.  If you are interested in joining Cub Scouts or have any questions about it, please email Cole at cca630@gmail.com.
