Hidden Lake’s sand volleyball court once again became the center of friendly competition, playful rivalries and plenty of neighborhood fun during the 2026 Scrivano Cup Volleyball League.

After a season filled with memorable matches, impressive performances and no shortage of creative team names, the competition came down to two longtime veterans: captains Todd Mailloux and Dave Scrivano. Their teams — the Isle of Spike Tease Balls and the Dominion of Spikestan — met in the championship match Aug. 8, with first-time finalists joining familiar faces on both sides of the net.

Friends, neighbors and family members gathered at the Sand Lot for the 11 a.m. final and the year-end celebration that followed. Stacy Catignani prepared festive drinks for spectators to enjoy during the match, with a buffet lunch, additional refreshments and the annual awards presentation rounding out the afternoon.

The championship proved worthy of the occasion.

“The Isle of Spike Tease Balls have been crowned this year’s Scrivano Cup champions!” league host Colleen Scrivano shared. “It was a hard-fought battle in the Sand Lot as Todd’s team defeated Dave’s team of the Dominion of Spikestan.”

The teams split the first two games, entering the third tied 1-1. Spikestan then suffered what Colleen jokingly described as a “major casualty” when Allie Doyle was sidelined. Chelsea Wyse was recruited from the sidelines and stepped onto the court in her civilian clothes to help fill the opening, but the Spike Tease Balls maintained their momentum. Todd’s team captured the next two games to secure the match and the coveted Scrivano Cup with a 3-1 victory.

The championship roster included captain Todd Mailloux, Jacqulyn Kolnitys, Kevin Kasten, Lisa Hoatlin, Brad Hood, and Nick Pinaire.

“Congratulations to all the participants,” Colleen said. “It was another fantastic year, and we truly love hosting such great friends and neighbors.”

The appreciation was clearly mutual. Following the championship, neighbors filled the league’s Facebook page with messages thanking Dave and Colleen for the time and effort they devote to making each season memorable.

“Thank you, Dave and Colleen, for the best of summer,” Melissa Hood shared. “Congrats to the final teams and award winners!”

Kevin Dittmer described it as “a fantastic neighborhood volleyball league,” while Stacey Corden-Books said players look forward to it every year. Scott Gray summed up the season and its celebratory finale: “Great day, great hosts, great volleyball and great food!”

The road to the championship included plenty of excitement. After the regular season, Packinsand, led by Ken Holman, tied for most championships, finished in first place. The playoffs then narrowed the field to four semifinalists, with Dave Scrivano facing Mark Doyle and Todd Mailloux taking on Brandon Lorenz. Matches were played in a best-of-five format, with the first four games going to 25 points and a possible fifth game to 15. Each game had to be won by two points.

Even the lead-up to the playoffs reflected the league’s signature sense of humor. Before one play-in match, Matt Bissett and Brandon Lorenz participated in a 40-mile bike race — jokingly billed as the competition that would determine which team earned the first serve.

While the championship trophy represented the season’s top team honor, the awards banquet also recognized many of the individual contributions that made the league so competitive and entertaining.

Kevin Kasten recorded the most service points with 56 and was also named the league’s Most Improved Player. Allie Doyle finished second in service points with 55, followed by Caitlyn Hunter with 54. Chelsea Wyse earned second place in setting points, while Jacqulyn earned the top honor for most sets.

Mark Doyle led the league with an impressive 156 kills. Nick Pinaire placed second with 104, and Anthony finished third with 101. Stephanie Green and Ken Holman completed the season without a service fault, while the Dominion of Spikestan and the Isle of Spike Tease Balls tied for the team attendance award.

Consistency was also celebrated through the league’s recognition for the fewest unforced errors. Katelyn and Caitlyn tied for first, Jacqulyn placed second, and Ryan Catignani finished third.

Colleen’s work behind the scenes also received special recognition. Mark Doyle thanked her for taking pictures throughout the year and acknowledged the effort required to document the season. Lisa Hoatlin similarly expressed her appreciation for the photos Colleen captured all season long, helping preserve the moments and memories created both on and off the court.

The Scrivano Cup has grown into much more than a neighborhood volleyball league. It gives residents another reason to gather throughout the summer, cheer one another on and enjoy the kind of spirited competition that brings people closer — even when they are battling from opposite sides of the net.
