Graduate Megan Hauer was inspired by her younger cousin Katey to pursue healthcare. She knew
that she wanted to pursue healthcare at an early age. She loved dressing up as a nurse
everywhere she went while holding a stethoscope and all!
Megan graduated from Olentangy Orange High School and Delaware Area Career Center in
May, receiving her high school diploma and High School Heath Tech and Nursing Certificates.
She will be attending Columbus State Community College through the Registered Nursing
Associates Program, with her RN to BSN program to be determined.
Her decision was inspired from her upbringing while caring for her cousin Katey who suffers
from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Katey is confined to an electric wheelchair and requires
assistance with her daily activities. Megan was motivated to become a nurse because the practice
helps her learn more about the obstacles people similar to Katey face.
Megan has witnessed the challenges Katey has overcome every single day and pursing this field
has allowed her to learn the difficulty of challenges she faces compared with others. Megan is
very proud of Katey’s strong willpower and tenacity through facing adversity.
Megan has acquired a heightened sense of empathy and compassion through caring for disabled
people. Her desire to make a strong impact on the lives of people with disabilities or healthcare
needs has been further reignited. Through becoming a nurse, Megan can use her advocacy
mindset to promote the best possible outcomes for individuals with disabilities or healthcare
needs and ensure they receive the care and support they deserve.
After taking a glimpse to the future, Megan sees herself as a confident person who can achieve
amazing things. She is pleased with her career path of becoming a nurse because she can
advocate for her patients and stand up for their rights. She aspires to make changes for the good
of the people and make a difference while helping those around her.
Megan wants to make a difference by providing high quality care for people during their most
vulnerable stages in life. She wants people to feel understood and treated with dignity while
caring for them. She hopes to leave people feeling less alone and better cared for with her
presence.
Megan says how she will continue to grow as she learns and develops professionally. She hopes
for her career to head toward pursing a leadership position within the healthcare profession.
Her goal with her career path is to help raise the standard of care for the nursing profession as a
whole.
