The Dieckman Family: A Dynamic Blend of Adventure, Tradition, and Community

Isabelle, Rob, Shana, Miles and Charlie

From rescuing swimmers at Hilton Head to cycling 32 miles while devouring a dozen donuts, the Dieckman family thrives on adventure and connection. Since settling in Westerville in 2019, Rob, Shana, Isabelle, Charlie, and Miles have embraced life enthusiastically, blending exciting pursuits with a strong sense of family and community. Rob, originally from Buffalo, New York, and Shana, a native of rural Indiana, bring a unique blend of backgrounds to their household. Together, they’ve built a life celebrating hard work, playfulness, and togetherness. Rob works as a managing partner at York and Associates, an executive search firm for banking. At the same time, Shana owns and runs Modern Therapy, a group practice in Powell that supports causes like Mental Health America Ohio and sponsors local sports teams. The couple’s love story began with a debate about White Zombie vs. Rob Zombie, a playful argument that set the stage for their fun-loving relationship.

The couple has three children who reflect the family’s diverse talents and passions. Isabelle, 23, recently graduated from Damen University with a degree in animation, and her creative spirit is often sparked by quiet moments with a good book. Charlie, 15, is a sophomore at Olentangy High School and shines as a football player and wrestler, embodying discipline and determination. Miles, 12, is a seventh grader at Berkshire Middle School. Despite his recent diagnosis of Crohn’s disease, Miles is actively involved in research initiatives and travel basketball leagues, proving his resilience on and off the court. Then there’s Bowtie, the family’s beloved—and notably large—cat, diagnosed with diabetes. Bowtie adds a touch of humor and warmth to the household, keeping everyone entertained with his personality and quirks.

For the Dieckman family, quality time is essential. Whether enjoying brunches with Isabelle’s boyfriend, Ed, spending time on the beach, or braving roller coasters at amusement parks, they cherish every moment together. Their yearly traditions, like visiting Zoo Lights and experiencing the frights of the Blood Prison, are highlights they look forward to every season. Rob and Shana also value staying physically active. Rob has competed in two Ironman triathlons, and Shana brought home the playful title of being in the “Dozen Donuts Club” during the Tour de Donut. In this cycling challenge, she biked 32 miles while indulging in a dozen donuts. At home, the kids keep the energy alive—Charlie and Miles often dribble basketballs or challenge each other to Fortnite matches, while Isabelle enjoys winding down with a book.

The family’s adventurous spirit extends beyond recreation. During a recent trip to Hilton Head, Rob made headlines within their circle by rescuing two drowning swimmers—a heroic act that reflects his calm under pressure and dedication to helping others. But Rob’s talents don’t end there. When he’s not spending time with his family or cheering for his hometown Buffalo Bills, he’s the lead guitarist in a band. “If you hear loud music coming from our house, it’s not our teenagers—it’s him,” jokes Shana.

Rob and Shana’s love story began through mutual friends and has grown stronger over the years, rooted in shared experiences and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. They enjoy exploring their Westerville neighborhood, from admiring the elaborate Halloween decorations to relaxing at Condado’s Tacos on Thursday nights. “The creativity of the costumes and the effort neighbors put into their displays never fail to amaze us,” they share. Through their work, play, and parenting, the Dieckmans are proud to contribute to the vibrant energy of central Ohio. Whether supporting local sports teams, fundraising for mental health causes, or simply sharing laughter over family brunch, they exemplify the value of staying connected and their community. As they look to the future, the Dieckman family remains committed to embracing life with open arms, proving that with a mix of adventure, resilience, and heart, every day can be extraordinary.
