In November 2023, Heather Collins and her family moved into the neighborhood and quickly felt at home. “We love all our friendly neighbors,” she shares. “It’s such an incredibly family-friendly neighborhood with parks, walking paths, and a beautiful clubhouse with a pool.” For Heather, community matters—and that same welcoming spirit is exactly what she brings to her business each day.

Heather is the proud owner of Lucid Salon in Elgin, conveniently located by Sam’s Club. Lucid has been in business since 2009, and Heather has owned the Elgin location since 2013. As a full-service hair salon, Lucid specializes in men’s, women’s, and children’s haircuts, with extensive experience in color and extensions. Whether it’s a subtle refresh or a complete transformation, her team is committed to helping every client look and feel their best.

For Heather, the most rewarding part of her work isn’t just great hair—it’s confidence. “Making people feel good about themselves is everything,” she says. The pandemic brought that truth into sharper focus. When salons were forced to close, clients and stylists alike realized how meaningful self-care truly is. “It was extremely challenging,” Heather reflects. “But we gained a new perspective. When we invest in ourselves and feel good about how we look, we feel better overall. That’s important.”

The beauty industry never stands still, and neither does Heather. Continuing education is required to maintain a cosmetology license, but for her, learning goes far beyond obligation. “This industry doesn’t ever stop learning. That’s how you keep your creative mind,” she explains. Staying current with trends and techniques allows Lucid Salon to consistently offer fresh styles while maintaining the highest standards.

Heather began her career as a cosmetologist at just 18 years old and opened her first salon at 24. Her journey reflects years of hard work and determination. Now at 41, with a toddler at home, she balances life as a business owner, wife, and mother. “I worked so hard for many years, and now I’m able to enjoy working behind the chair while also being present for my family,” she says. “I’ve learned a solid work-life balance.”

At Lucid Salon, there’s always something to celebrate. The team decorates for every holiday and keeps the atmosphere fun, welcoming, and up to date with the latest trends. “We are always celebrating YOU,” Heather says with a smile.

Over the years, many clients have become more than just appointments on a calendar—they’ve become friends. “I’ve met so many wonderful people who are now my personal clients. It’s been amazing.”

Heather’s advice to others? “Always follow your dream. Business will always have its challenges. It takes patience and determination.”
