Meeting Families Where They Are: Madelyn Andresen
Madelyn Andresen grew up in Highland Woods, a neighborhood that shaped her both personally and professionally. After 14 years in the community, she speaks fondly of its winding ponds, mature trees, and the sense of balance created by the community pool and workout facility—features that mirrored her own grounded, thoughtful approach to life. While she has recently moved following her marriage, Highland Woods will always feel like home, a place that played an important role in who she has become.
Madelyn’s journey into pediatric therapy was guided by intention and a strong educational foundation. She completed two years at McHenry County College, earning her Associate degree, before continuing at Elgin Community College, where she received her Physical Therapist Assistant certificate. In August 2026, she began her professional career at Express Yourself Pediatric Therapy in Palatine—an environment that closely aligns with her values, purpose, and passion for supporting children and families.
What Madelyn finds most fulfilling is the opportunity to work alongside children and their families as they navigate growth and development. Each day brings new moments of progress, and she finds meaning in watching children gain confidence, build skills, and reach milestones that once felt out of reach. For Madelyn, no two journeys are the same, and that’s what makes the work so rewarding.
Staying current in her field is important to Madelyn, and she plans to pursue continuing education as her career continues to evolve. She values the learning that comes from collaboration with fellow therapists and the shared insight gained through hands-on experience. Ongoing education, mentorship, and real-world practice will all play a role in how she continues to grow professionally.
Highland Woods is known for its many young families, and Madelyn sees Express Yourself Pediatric Therapy as a natural source of support for the community. The clinic’s founder, Dr. Melissa Grosvenor, owns two locations, one in Palatine and another in Maryland. Dr. Grosvenor has extensive experience working with both neurotypical and neurodivergent children, meeting each child exactly where they are and honoring their individual strengths. Madelyn believes deeply in this mission and that every child brings something meaningful to the world and deserves patience, respect, and understanding.
Madelyn’s approach to her professional journey is simple yet powerful: never judge someone without first taking the time to understand their character. It’s a belief she carries into both her personal life and her work, shaping the care she provides every day.
