Keli Jakel, the founder of Organized by Keli & Co., loves what she does. Before starting her company, Keli spent years as an educator and school administrator, managing everything from bilingual education to district-level administration. However, the mounting stress of her career, combined with life’s challenges, took a toll on her health.

“I ended up retiring from education after experiencing stroke-like symptoms,” Keli says. “I had Bell’s palsy, a drag in my left leg, and memory loss.” 

As her health improved, Keli began searching for part-time work to ease back into the professional world. She was hesitant to return to education, even though she was highly qualified. Instead, she sought something more meaningful.

While reading a book about blind spots and their impact on life, Keli had an epiphany: “I realized I was an organizer. That’s what I did in every school department I worked in—I created order.” This realization inspired her to channel her natural talents into helping people transform their homes into havens of peace and relaxation.

In March 2019, Keli launched Organized by Keli & Co., intending to work just 10 hours a week. However, demand for her services quickly exceeded her expectations. “I started with the idea of helping one or two families, but before I knew it, I had more business than I could handle.”

Her first big break came when she assisted a client with ALS who was transitioning from California to Denver. The project involved combining two homes into one, organizing, unpacking, and making the new space fully functional in record time.

“That client told me the sky was the limit for my business,” Keli says. “He even coached me on how to turn my hobby into a scalable company.”

The team specializes in helping clients through life transitions, whether moving, welcoming a new baby, or adapting a home to accommodate health challenges. “We aim to create homes that are soft places to land—spaces that offer refuge from life’s chaos,” Keli explains.

One unique service they offer is managing unpacking and organization for clients who are relocating. “Clients can go on vacation while we pack their current home, unpack everything at the new house, and even stock the pantry and fridge. When the family arrives from their vacation, their home is live-in ready, and they can unpack from their trip and get back to their lives without touching a single box.”

Keli is proud of the culture she’s built within her company. “Every member of my team came to me organically—I’ve never had to post a job listing. We’ve become like a family.”

For Keli, the work is deeply rewarding. “There’s nothing better than knowing we’ve made someone’s life easier and their home a place they can truly enjoy.”
