Turning Blank Walls Into Stories

Most people see a blank wall and think… nothing.

Kristen Zimmerman sees possibility.

Maybe it becomes a mountain landscape glowing with Colorado fall colors inside Cherry Creek North’s Mendocino Farms. Maybe it transforms into a geometric mural along 32nd Avenue in the Highlands. Or perhaps it becomes an emotional portrait honoring a beloved pet or family member.
“If you can think it up or dream it, I can create it,” Kristen says.

As the founder behind Art For Hue, LLC, Kristen has built a business centered around creativity and transforming spaces through art. From large-scale commercial murals to intimate portrait commissions, no two projects are ever alike.

“I’m not a one-trick pony,” Kristen says with a laugh.

Her murals can now be found throughout Denver, including multiple projects for Mendocino Farms. One interior mural inside their Cherry Creek North location features mountain scenery with “Cherry Creek” woven into the design. Another exterior mural in the Highlands was intentionally designed to reflect the surrounding community with abstract geometric mountainscapes, local landmarks, and Colorado-inspired details.

At Prime IV Hydration & Wellness in Cherry Creek North, Kristen created another custom mural inspired by the company’s branding, a coastal scene featuring a woman meditating in a yoga pose on a pier.
Currently, she is working on three custom murals for True Foods Kitchen in Boulder.

Every project begins the same way: collaboration.

Kristen works closely with clients to understand their vision, branding, space dimensions, colors, and goals for the environment. Using digital mockups through Procreate, she fine-tunes designs until clients are completely happy before paint ever touches the wall.

“I approach murals through the lens of design,” she explains. “I want the artwork to feel cohesive with the architecture, branding, and atmosphere of the space.”

While commercial murals have become a major part of her business, Kristen is quick to point out that murals aren’t only for businesses. She also creates highly customized residential work, including one unforgettable project in Broomfield.

Inside a luxury home’s half-sized indoor basketball court, Kristen transformed all four walls with towering black-and-white portraits of professional athletes, including Serena Williams, Michael Jordan, and Lionel Messi. Their jerseys burst with color against charcoal gray walls splashed with complementary paint effects.

“People ask if it’s in a gym somewhere,” Kristen says. “Nope. It’s in someone’s home.”

Portraiture also remains deeply personal to her. With a background in Art History and Oil Painting from college in San Francisco, Kristen says she will always feel drawn back to painting people and animals. Memorial portraits especially hold special meaning.

“There’s something beautiful about honoring someone and keeping their legacy alive,” she says.

That emotional connection to art became even stronger following a devastating bike accident that left Kristen with nine facial fractures, a skull crack, and a concussion in 2020. What could have broken her instead became a turning point.

“It became an ‘I get knocked down, but I get up again’ moment,” she says.
Art became part of her healing process.

Today, Kristen lives in Denver’s Cory-Merrill neighborhood with her husband and two children. When she’s not on mural sites, she’s usually painting in her studio, playing pickleball or tennis, running, hiking, cycling, or enjoying Colorado.

At the heart of everything Kristen creates is connection. “I genuinely care about my clients and the process of creating something meaningful together,” she says.

And with every wall she transforms, Kristen is proving that art doesn’t simply decorate a space. It changes the way people feel inside it.
