Meet the Walkers, Courtney, Jamie, Madison, and Madalyn

Carrying Tradition from One Generation to Another with Homes, Schools, and Sports

Courtney and Jamie Walker have lived in Historic Brookhaven for over 16 years. Their Club Forest house is one Courtney visited often as a child. Her dad, James Peters, moved into the Club Circle ranch with his parents at age 15. The Peters were the second owners of the house, which was built in 1956. Courtney’s grandmother, Carolyn Oliver, remained in the house after losing her first and second husbands and was still there when she unexpectedly died in 2007.

The family was already discussing the Walkers purchasing the house as Carolyn was planning a future move to Lenbrook. Her passing expediated the process. After a brief period of selling their Meadowbrook home while renting the Club Circle abode to next-door neighbors Mark and Tricia Stevens during their renovation, Courtney and Jamie moved in. Two years later they renovated the house to suit their needs. They enclosed the carport and added a mud room, but decided not to create a second story.

“I’ve known this neighborhood my whole life, have many family friends here,” says Courtney. “We knew we wanted our kids at Sarah Smith Elementary so we moved back and bought the house.”

Living in a family home is not the only tradition the Walkers keep. They attend University of Georgia (UGA) football games and sit in seats Courtney’s grandfather purchased when her father was attending the university 60 years ago. (Courtney’s father James passed away three years ago.)

Courtney also attended UGA and met Jamie there. His sister and Courtney were Phi Mu sorority sisters and lived across the hall from one another. Courtney first met Jamie when Jamie’s dad came to town for a UGA v. University of Kentucky game. Fast forward to a sorority spring formal. Jamie’s sister suggested him as Courtney’s date. Courtney asked Jamie to the formal and they have been together ever since. They dated for four years and were married on June 3, 2000.

The Walkers have two daughters. Madison (21) is a rising senior at the University of Alabama. She is a business management major with a concentration in human resources and a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She likes to swim at the university’s aquatic center and is a member of the human resources society.

Madalyn (17) is a rising senior at the Lovett School. She and Courtney are members of the mother/daughter philanthropic organization National Charity League. Madalyn is on the Lovett varsity football and game-day cheerleading squads. She is a member of the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church youth board.

Their Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Daisy and Rosco, round out the family. Courtney jokes she fell so in love with Daisy, their first pup, that she wouldn’t put her down. So she asked Jamie his thoughts on adding a second Cavalier to the household. In February 2020, they brought Rosco home from Cavaliers by Crumley in Lula, GA. When completing Rosco’s paperwork, they learned that both pups have the same father despite their age difference and coming from different litters.

Jamie and Courtney are each entrepreneurs. Jamie owns his own insurance brokerage firm, the Walker Insurance Group. He represents a variety of insurers and works in both commercial and personal lines. He has several clients who are Historic Brookhaven residents. Jamie was born in Cincinnati and moved to Macon when he was in the eighth grade.

Courtney owns her own interior design firm, C. Walker Designs. “I knew since I was in ninth grade in high school that I wanted to be an interior designer,” she says. Courtney has a bachelor’s of science in furnishings and interiors from UGA. After working in an ADAC (Atlanta Decorative Arts Center) showroom and then for an interior designer, she started her own firm in 2003.

Her specialty is bringing her clients’ visions to reality. “I bring their look to the table,” Courtney notes. “I like to get to know my clients.” Her work is mainly residential, but she has also designed model apartments and clubhouses for multifamily housing. One of her more unique projects was choosing the seating, wood paneling, and carpet for a private plane, and then decorating the hangar’s restrooms, including shower stalls.

She works with whole-house projects as well as single rooms. Courtney’s designs have appeared in Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles and Atlanta Style & Design magazines. In 2025, she designed the upstairs hallway for the  Southeastern Designer Showhouse.

As a family, the Walkers enjoy pickleball and hanging out at Capital City Club (CCC), playing card or board games, and going to concerts. Courtney enjoys reading and is a member of the Brookhaven Book Club. “Our group reads good books,” she says. “It’s an eclectic group with women of all different ages. It’s so much fun.” She also plays on an ALTA team at CCC. Jamie plays golf at CCC, and at home enjoys watching the sport or playing video games to relax.

For the holidays, they have s’mores on Christmas day and watch A Christmas Story. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is an all-time family favorite that’s played throughout the season and even gets referenced throughout the year. “All year round, we’ll say jokes from it,” Courtney notes. She quotes famous lines from the movie: “’And why is the carpet all wet, Todd?’ ‘I don’t know Margo.’”

They often travel to New York City for Thanksgiving. The Caribbean is their favorite family vacation destination, whether it’s to the Bahamas or Turks & Caicos or a cruise of several islands. Courtney and her mom, India Peters, enjoyed a special trip to Canyon Ranch this past January for a belated birthday celebration for Courtney.

When asked what they love best about living in Historic Brookhaven neighborhood, these residents say: “We love the neighbors and being close to Capital City.”

What’s one way to take advantage of June weather and enjoy summer at your home? Consider improving or adding a covered porch space. “It’s like the new man cave,” says Courtney Walker of C. Walker Designs. With televisions, dining areas, and upholstered furniture options, covered porches have extended a family’s living space to outdoors.

Courtney offers these tips and considerations for elevating your outdoor living space:

  • Designate where you want your outdoor space – Are you converting a patio? Sprucing up a current screened porch?
  • Determine the purpose for your space – If it includes watching sports or movies, you’ll need to consider audiovisual options.
  • Decide if alfresco dining is important to you – Outdoor dining has become a way to get families together more often.
  • Consider the type of furniture – Do you have an antique wicker or rattan set that you inherited and want to add new cushions and throw pillows? If you want all new furniture, do you want it to be upholstered? Will you want an ottoman, swivel chair, or recliner?
