Carrying Her Light Forward: Remembering Cora King

There are some people whose presence changes a room the moment they walk into it, people who bring
warmth, laughter, and something you feel more than you can describe.

Cora King was that kind of presence.

A beautiful light in our community has dimmed, but it is far from extinguished. In the days ahead, we
are called to carry her light forward, by being a little more present, a little more intentional, and a little
more like Cora.

She showed up in ways that mattered. In February, she read a book a day with her daughter, Daisy Mae,
creating moments that will last a lifetime. She loved supporting local, sharing what was happening
around town, and lifting others up. She had a way of noticing people and making them feel seen.

A 2016 Hurricane High School graduate, Cora led with heart as student body president and brought joy
through the Red Hot Show Choir. She was named Miss West Virginia Teen USA and Miss
Congeniality at the national level, an honor that reflected who she was so naturally. She also created
Christmas Blessings, a tradition that continues to give back in our community.

Above all, she loved her family deeply. Her fiancé, John, and her daughter, Daisy Mae, were the center
of her world, and where her light shined brightest. She was lovingly called "Sis" or "Sissy" by her brother Joey (Meghan) Bailey and their children Carson and Josie. Cora was born on June 19, 1998, to
Steven King and Ellen & "Marie"  Mitchell and was raised by her loving Uncle Joe and Aunt Lori Bailey.

Our community feels this loss deeply, and yet we are grateful for the love she gave and the lives she
touched.

Cora was loved by so many, and that love will carry her forward in all of us.

We will remember her.
We will honor her.
And we will carry her light forward.

Until we meet again, rest easy, sweet Cora.
