Meet the Jackson Family: Collecting Adventures, Creating Memories
Timothy and Catherine Jackson live in the Southbrooke subdivision of Teays Valley with their 10-year-old daughter, Lillian. Originally from Buchannon and St. Albans, respectively, Timothy and Catherine met through work in 2007 and married in 2010. They’ve lived in Southbrooke for the past six years and have three children—Rizon (24), Wyatt (21), and Lillian (10)—as well as two beloved dogs: Winston, a 14-year-old companion, and Willow, a playful pup who keeps everyone on their toes.
Strong family values and a commitment to hard work are central to the Jacksons’ lives. Timothy, a Graphic Design graduate from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, began his career in Florida designing for iconic destinations such as Disney World, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, and MGM Studios. His career eventually brought him back to West Virginia, where he contributed to projects across the state—from Tamarack in Beckley to displays for Yeager Airport, Snowshoe, Canaan Valley, WVU, and more. Today, Timothy works in the Marketing Department at Vandalia Health and also runs his own business, TJ’s Marketing, serving local businesses with creative advertising solutions.
Catherine studied Social Work and Psychology at Marshall University before beginning her career in Atlanta, working in the Health Information department at Emory University. When she returned to West Virginia, she found her true calling—supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. After years of experience, including serving as Clinical Director at Hopewell Community Services, Catherine founded her own agency, A Helping Hand, LLC, in 2024, a case management agency based in Teays Valley. The agency currently serves 25 counties across West Virginia, helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities access the services they need. Her goal is to serve the entire state and continue advocating for individuals with special needs.
Something many people may not know about Catherine is that she has served in the Air National Guard for several years. While she doesn’t often talk about it, she finds pride and purpose in giving back to something greater than herself through military service.
Family adventures play a huge role in the Jacksons’ lives. They love hiking, skiing, and traveling—especially over Thanksgiving, when they’ve explored places like Niagara Falls and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Their most memorable experiences include a trip to Costa Rica shared with close friends, cruises to the Caribbean, and Florida getaways that bring the whole extended family together.
“Travel gives us a chance to unplug and reconnect with each other,” said Catherine. “We love experiencing different cultures and creating memories that last.”
Skiing is another favorite, with Canaan Valley and Snowshoe Mountain as their go-to destinations. And when it comes to sports, the Jackson household is joyfully divided: some cheer for the WVU Mountaineers, others for the Marshall Thundering Herd. They also root for the Pittsburgh Penguins and enjoy the occasional trip to Cincinnati to catch a Reds game.
Lillian, currently a fifth grader at West Teays Elementary, shines in both academics and dance. Now in her third year with the competition team at Dancing Unlimited, she also enjoys writing and illustrating her own stories. “She has such a vivid imagination,” said Catherine. “It’s fun to watch her bring her ideas to life.”
Wyatt was a recent member of the Army National Guard and is continuing to pursue his degree in Information Technology. Rizon works in sales at AT&T, furthering his education in Business, and resides in Charleston.
The Jacksons are active in their community and church, attending Ascension Catholic Church, where Catherine has previously taught CRE classes. Both parents have volunteered with the Special Olympics, celebrating the accomplishments of many of Catherine’s clients.
Family traditions like Friendsgiving, holiday parties, and Sunday game nights bring even more joy to their home. “Our home is always open for laughter and connection,” Catherine said. “We love being the house that brings people together.” The Jacksons love Christmas time and usually host dinner at their house each year, welcoming aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and friends. Having everyone gather under their roof makes them feel truly special and grateful for the closeness of their family. One of their simpler yet cherished traditions is family game night, typically held on Sunday evenings or whenever everyone is home for the holidays.
What they love most about living in Teays Valley is the tight-knit, welcoming community. “We’ve made lifelong friends here,” Catherine said. “It’s the kind of place where neighbors become family—and that’s something we don’t take for granted.”
