Q. Where did you grow up
A. I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I was raised by an engineer father and
teacher mother– a combination that, in many ways, shaped who I am today as a dentist.
From my dad, I inherited a love for problem-solving and precision; from my mom, a
passion for teaching and compassion. I’m proud of my Midwest roots, which instilled in
me strong values, resilience, and a dedicated work ethic. My husband and I spent time in
Greenville and Columbia, and have now been in Charleston since 2005, with our two
children born at East Cooper Medical Center.
Q. Tell us about your background and practice
A. I graduated from Medical University of South Carolina in 2010, and then worked as an
associate in private practice and with an oral maxillofacial prosthodontist, where I gained
skills in advanced dental and facial reconstruction. I then purchased an existing practice
at the corner of Mathis Ferry and Lowcountry Blvd in 2011, now known as Kari Ryan
Dentistry. We have grown in size from 4 rooms to 8, and have a gorgeous and modern
building amongst the trees of Mathis Ferry. We have established ourselves as caring,
compassionate, highly skilled, and high-tech. I’m proud of our all-female team of loving
professionals.
Q. What is unique about your business and what sets it apart from the rest?
A. I mentioned that we are an all-female team, which contributes to our strong sense of
unity and collaboration. This dynamic allows us to deliver exceptionally compassionate
care. We are highly efficient, detail-oriented, and skilled at putting even the most anxious
patients at ease. We take the time to get to know each individual and provide
personalized, patient-centered care. This is apparent in our thorough 2-hour new patient
appointment, where we get to know you and your health needs and desires.
Q. What kinds of services do you provide, and what can a patient expect from your practice?
A. Our practice provides a full spectrum of dental care– from preventive services that
protect your oral health, to advanced cosmetic treatments, surgical procedures, and
state-of-the-art implant dentistry– all tailored to meet your individual needs. I am deeply
committed to continuing education and constantly advancing my skills and knowledge to
provide the highest standard of care. This dedication is evident the moment you walk
into our practice, where every aspect of your experience reflects our commitment to
excellence and patient-centered care.
Q. Given your expertise, what advice can you offer to I’On residents?
A. Oral health is more than just a smile– it’s a window into your overall well-being. The
mouth is the gateway to the body, and issues here can influence everything from heart
health to systemic inflammation. But there’s even more to oral health than just your
teeth. It involves airway function, hormone balance, the oral microbiome, jaw alignment,
and the confidence that comes with a healthy, beautiful smile. Taking care of your oral
health means taking care of your whole body– and your whole body will thank you for it.
Q. What else should we know about you, your family, or your business?
A. I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our local residents who are current
patients for their continued loyalty and trust in our practice. To those who haven’t visited
us yet, we warmly welcome you to come see what we’re all about. It is truly an honor to
serve this incredible community, and I feel privileged to provide care to such wonderful people.
