The Arena-Broome Family

How did you and your family discover I’On, and what made you decide this was
the place to live?

Mayra: We had been living in different corners of Charleston, enjoying each for
different reasons, but I’On tugged at us. Along the way, we became friends with many
families who live in the neighborhood. We took a late-afternoon drive to the
neighborhood earlier in the year and were struck by the porches, the lakes, and the way
neighbors greeted each other so naturally. It reminded me of my Boca Raton
upbringing—gracious and elegant, but never stuffy. It felt like the perfect blend of
sophistication and neighborly warmth, exactly the kind of place where we could set
down deep roots while keeping our days spontaneous.

Tell us a little about your work and passions.
Mayra: I own a boutique called StyledWell. I was mentored by Law Roach, who has
famously styled Zendaya and Celine Dion. We have a King Street and a West
Ashley location. For me, fashion is more than clothes. I love creating spaces where people feel
confident, celebrated, and cared for. We host Sip & Shops, men’s and women’s capsule
launches, and even charcuterie Saturdays. The cheese boards can get a little extravagant,
and that’s half the fun. My favorite part of the business is the community: moms
rediscovering themselves, daughters bonding with their moms, and couples realizing getting
dressed can be enjoyable. That sense of connection spills into our home, too—our porch
and kitchen are always set up for neighbors to drop in for coffee, champagne, or just a
good chat.

What about Neill—what should neighbors know about him?
Mayra: Neill is my steady, good-humored counterbalance. He grew up in South
Carolina loves golf and tennis, and is always ready to swap notes on courses or cars. He has
that true Southern neighborly streak. If you need help with a package, he’s your guy. He
and our bulldog, Walter, are fixtures on the evening walks around the lakes. Walter
fancies himself the neighborhood greeter and, in his mind, deserves a compliment from
every passerby. Neill is also an entrepreneur and the owner of In Motion Wellness
Studios, which now has almost 40 locations across the United States. His passion for
health and fitness is rooted in helping people live better, more balanced lives, and I love
that our family conversations often circle back to wellness, purpose, and how we can
make an impact together.

And Ava?
Mayra: Ava is our twelve-year-old daughter and the heartbeat of our family. She’s
wonderfully balanced—creative but also practical. She loves sketching, coding, video
games, and food! She has a soft spot for animals and is always on the lookout for the
perfect I’On reading nook. She currently loves Turtle Cove. She’s at that magical age
where she wants both independence and family traditions, so you’ll find her at the club
with us one day, and then deciding she wants tennis lessons with her favorite tennis pro
- Walker. She also has a golf cart she loves, which she calls her Tesla.

What do you all enjoy together as a family?
Mayra: We’re happiest when we’re blending calm with connection. Saturdays usually
start with taking Walter out for a walk or on the golf cart. We hold onto traditions. first
day of school pictures, birthday breakfasts, even Walter’s annual “National Dog Day”
portrait—but we also make room for surprises and spontaneous fun. For us, the best
days are the ones where family, neighbors, and community overlap.

You’re also very active in the community. Can you share more about that?
Mayra: Yes, community work is an integral part of our lives. I work with the American Heart
Association after unexpectedly undergoing heart surgery in 2003. I also support several
local women’s initiatives. Charleston has such a beautiful way of blending celebration
with purpose—galas, farm-to-table benefits, Junior League events—and I’On, with its
sense of connection, makes it easy to carry that spirit of giving home. If anyone ever
needs ideas for styling a fundraiser or planning a themed event, that’s right up my alley.

What excites you most about becoming part of I’On?
Mayra: Beyond the architecture and scenery, it’s the intentional design of community
life. I love that people here know each other’s names, that kids ride bikes in groups, and
that a simple wave can turn into a meaningful conversation. We were looking for a place
where belonging wasn’t accidental but built into the rhythm of daily life. I’On offers
exactly that, and we’re thrilled to grow into it.

Anything you’d like to say to your new neighbors?
Mayra: We’d love to meet you! If you see us out walking with Walter, please wave us
down. Share your favorite sunset spots, holiday traditions, or even the trick to
convincing the ducks to sit still for photos. And if you ever need a cake stand, a
boutonniere in a pinch, or just someone to toast your good news with, our porch is open.
We’re so grateful to be here, and we can’t wait to get to know everyone.
