The Wolford Family

Loving Family Life in I'On

Sloane Upchurch and Clay Wolford and their four amazing children are always on the go. I’m sure you’ve seen them around the neighborhood walking to coffee or ice cream, enjoying happy hour at Obrien's pub, or running kids around, although we are certain wherever they were headed at the time, they were late. They are the most genuine mix of charm and real-life grit, a combination that is endearing if not perfect for them, and you’ll want to be their friends as soon as you meet them.

Clay, a Princeton University graduate originally from Kentucky, and  Sloane, a Clemson graduate native to the low country,  met after a chance encounter at a mom’s happy hour which Clay, quite slyly, decided to crash one fall evening several years ago. Clay, a senior managing director of global investments at Greystar, was moving back to Charleston after 9 years living abroad in London. Sloane, a physician assistant working with the neurosurgical team at Southeastern Spine, was immediately smitten once she got over him ruining the girl’s only dinner as she was so looking forward to that evening.

Since then, the couple who are adventurous and love to travel the world together, have created a beautiful, blended family with their children, Grey (10), Mabel (7), Elizabeth (3), and Campbell (5 months). Their big kids attend East Cooper Montessori Charter School and would love to make fast friends that are a bike ride away.

This big, fun-loving family moved into I'On last Christmas and have since made their home on Robert Mills Circle, one that is comfortable, loud, and welcoming. They are always up for playdates for their kids or happy hour drinks on their porch, or both! They enjoy spending time with their friends and family who all mostly call Charleston home as well.

To add to their excitement of welcoming their son earlier this summer, the couple, who may be just the slightest bit unconventional, will be married this Christmas surrounded by their closest friends,  family, and their children at St. Patrick Catholic Church, downtown.

You can be sure you will see their sometimes tan, sometimes exhausted faces in this amazing neighborhood for years to come, with their growing brood following in their footsteps.
