The Magic of Living in I’On

Friends and family are always amazed by the true natural beauty of I’On and treasure the beautiful sights during walks and golf cart rides. They remark on how much they enjoy seeing the lakes, wildlife, dogs, lovely homes and landscapes, parks, deep water docks, and especially the Marsh Walking Trail. There are so many fun activities here to keep everyone busy that it is hard to choose between I’ON at Home, Potluck Night, First Friday, Tuesday Coffees, Ongoing card games, and activities at the I’ON Club, which includes exercise classes, tennis, pickleball, aquatics, social events, and professional sports tournaments. In addition, many restaurants offer a variety of delicious menus, enticing neighbors to gather socially in the hood!

You might ask what the most special aspect of I’ON is to me, and I would say, “It is all about the wonderful people who love living here, and who reach out to one another in friendship through good times and difficult times.” I have met so many interesting, caring, supportive, and fun people here that I would never want to live
anywhere else at this point in my life. Neighbors are interested in making a difference with each other and giving back to non-profit organizations in a passionate manner. This is a vibrant and growing community that welcomes individuals and families at all different stages of life. Single individuals and families are warmly included in all aspects of I’ON living.
Warmly, Ann O’Brien

In 2005, my husband Alan Goer and I sold our 1850s home in The Old Village of Mount Pleasant, where we had lived for thirty years, raising our three sons.  For a business opportunity, we then purchased another 1850s home in Providence, RI, where we lived for 16 years.  We moved back home to the Low Country in July of 2022 into our I'ON investment rental property.  We were able to renew long-time friendships in the I'ON neighborhood.  After spending 50 years together, my husband passed away in September of 2024.  Our I'ON friends sustained me through a difficult adjustment. Several ladies, who have also endured the loss of a spouse, reached out with dinner and party invitations, card playing opportunities, local Gala opportunities for participation, potluck suppers, and a monthly "Wonderful Widow's Wednesday " at a local walkable restaurant. The I'ON neighborhood has been an appreciated source of support, comfort, and connection.   Wendy Marcus Goer

I never expected to live in I’On as a single person. My late husband, Steve, and I bought our home in 2013 with the intention of spending our “back nine” years enjoying South Carolina’s warmth and hospitality once we retired. But 2019 brought unexpected sadness and change.

In 2020, I was able to work from home, so I took the opportunity to move to I’On full-time. In retrospect, the pandemic turned out to be a healing time for me. I was incredibly fortunate to join a community where so many neighbors have chosen to live joyfully.

The spirit of I’On is contagious—its joy and camaraderie shine through countless social gatherings, from Pot Luck and First Fridays to Women’s Coffees and Grub on the Green. Even a simple walk around the lake with your dog offers a chance for connection. In I’On, you never have to walk alone.

One of my most cherished experiences is gathering with the “Wonderful Widows Wednesday” group. What began as a casual “let’s get together” has grown into a devoted sisterhood. We don’t always meet on Wednesdays, and we’re not limited to widows, but we are united by our commitment to laughter, support, and friendship—and to celebrating this beautiful community we call home
Fondly, Mary Swenson
