Meet Henry & Hannah
Precious Pets on the Porches of I'On
Hi! My name is Henry and this is my sister Hannah. We are Norwich
Terriers, a rather rare breed because our litters are so small. I am two and
Hannah is one so we are still puppies. We come in two color, Black & Tan
like the two of us or Reds which are really sort of allover strawberry blonds.
Our first cousins are Norfolk Terriers and we look just like them except their
ears are down and ours are up. The way to remember us is the fact that we
have “witch hat” ears which makes us Norwich. Easy peasy!
People are always asking our mom if we are the dog from the “Wizard of
Oz.” That would be a “no.” Toto was a female Cairn Terrier, a bit bigger than
us and we have never even been to Kansas?!
We spend most of the year in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. We really like it
up there on the ocean but we LOVE spending winters in I’On where we can
take long walks around the lakes without our doggie coats! We especially
like to chase squirrels which is why our mom says we will NEVER be off-
leash pups. We were bred to go-to-ground and be rodent hunters but mom
would not let us hurt anything. So I guess that part of our breeding is off the
table.
When we take walks people are always stopping our mom and saying how
cute we are. Maybe. She does have a lot of names for us like “baby cakes,
her angels, Pooh bears, her Prince and Princess, munchkins, etc.” but I
think we are just dogs, right?!
My sister loves basking in the sunshine in mom’s garden but I need to be
close to mom at all times. Who else is going to watch over her? That is why
I sometimes bark around strangers but I am just a love nugget once I get to
know you. Hannah is more of a crowd-pleaser and leaves mom to fend for
herself so someone has to protect her. I was her first born and had her to
myself for a whole year so we will always have a special thing going on but
don’t tell Hannah. We both love to be in her lap so that will occasionally
require a bit of a negotiation between us but because I am bigger, I usually
win. However, mom always steps in to be sure Hannah gets her special
time which can be a bit annoying.
We have a third member of our fur family, Harley the Ragdoll kitty. Mom
has always had rescue cats in the past but Hannah’s breeder told my mom
that the Ragdoll is likely the only breed that would put up with the
shenanigans of terrier puppies. So mom gave it a try and sure enough, he
is our best buddy and nothing seems to bother him! We drag him on the
floor like a dust mop and he thinks it is fun. He wants to be with us all the
time. Mom made a good choice. Because Harley is also a one year old,
mom says it is like waking up to three toddlers every morning.
Hannah said she is fine with me doing all the talking. She is happy to just
sit back and be adored. She is a cute pup but personally I think she is a bit
full of herself. Of course, mom did wait for her for a long time as she is the
great, great granddaughter of mom’s first female Norwich named Bug. I
guess that makes her sort of special but mom loves us both the same and
tells us that every day. She thinks she is the luckiest dog mom in the whole
world!
