Harper’s Journey

From Rescue to Cherished Family Member

Harper, a 10-year-old Australian Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix, had a rough start in life. She was rescued from a hoarder’s home in Mississippi, where she lived among 50 to 60 other dogs, including her 12 littermates. Fortunately, she was saved young and didn’t experience any lasting effects from her early hardships. After spending time on a foster farm, her perfect family—Susie and Stu Lisbeth—found her on Petfinder—a day they fondly call “hitting the lottery!”

Harper’s name was inspired by its popularity among young children—her family thought it was both sweet and fitting for their new furry companion.

Harper is the definition of a true companion dog. She thrives on being close to her humans, often sitting by their side with a gentle paw on their lap. One of her most endearing habits is greeting guests with a stuffed animal or small gift, making every visitor feel extra special.

Harper loves her Cod stick treats and cherishes her two stuffed animals, which she proudly carries around to welcome company.

One of the most unforgettable moments for Harper’s family was the day she arrived. Delivered on a tractor-trailer from Mississippi, each rescued dog came with an envelope containing their picture. Harper clung tightly to her caregiver before being handed to her new family—and from that moment on, she never looked back.

Harper enjoys long walks, happily greeting neighbors along the way. Though she prefers to admire other dogs from a distance, she occasionally exchanges a friendly nose touch in passing.

While some dogs crave grand adventures, Harper is happiest at home with her family. If she had her way, she’d spend her time running through the berm, chasing wildlife in the backyard—her favorite pastime.

Harper’s story is a beautiful reminder of the love and happiness that rescued pets bring. Do you have a special pet story to share? We’d love to hear all about it!
