The Fabulous Fleckers
Love, Laughter & Lots of Golf
Karen and Bryan Fleck first crossed paths at a poolside business conference cocktail party — where, as Karen jokes, “the only sport was cocktailing.” But golf quickly stepped in as the real matchmaker. The very next day, they both happened to be in Atlanta for a charity tournament. One round later, they were hooked — on the game, and on each other.
Today, golf is the glue that keeps them laughing, competing, and enjoying life together at Ibis. Karen plays three times a week (and proudly represents Ibis in competitive leagues), while Bryan hits the course four days a week, plus their much-loved Sunday Couples Game. The weekly tradition is always “Girls vs. Guys.” Ask Karen who’s winning and she’ll tell you with a smile: “The girls are leading in wins!” Bryan, grinning, doesn’t argue.
Competition aside, fun is always the priority. They cheer each other on, trade a little friendly smack talk, and follow their golden rule for a tough day on the course: keep quiet and don’t overanalyze. Karen still laughs about the time she missed Bryan’s last hole-in-one because she was stuck on a business call — leaving Bryan to celebrate with nothing more than a tiny, silent “yip.”
Their golfing adventures have taken them to world-class courses like Whistling Straits, Pine Valley, and Bandon Dunes. Dream rounds still on the wish list? For Karen, Pinehurst. For Bryan, Cypress Point. But truthfully, every round together feels like a dream date.
And when the clubs are packed away, Bryan shines in his other specialty: post-game snacks. Known as the “Snack King,” his legendary nachos are almost impossible to resist. (Karen happily admits this.)
As for their team name, Karen champions The Fabulous Fleckers while Bryan lobbies for Vino con Carne. Either way, their playful spirit is always front and center.
Their advice for other couples? Karen says, “Golf is a wonderful way to spend time together. We love talking about the holes, the greens, and the shots we plan and hope to make.” Bryan adds, “Respect each other’s talents and remember: golf is just a game, and we live in paradise.”
With their mix of fun, friendship, and healthy competition, the Flecks prove that couples who play together really do stay together.
