Golden Years, Golden Heart

Bella has spent a lifetime bringing joy, loyalty, and just a little mischief to the West family.

At nearly 16 years old, Bella is the definition of a life well-loved. This beautiful golden retriever—half American, half English—has been a steady, faithful companion through many seasons of life for Mary Grace West and her family.
From the beginning, Bella made it clear she had her own way of doing things. While most retrievers are known for fetching, Bella preferred a more playful approach, turning every game into a cheerful round of keep-away with her beloved balls.

Her personality has always been as sweet as it is spirited. Bella especially loves children, greeting them with gentle enthusiasm and a warmth that makes everyone feel instantly at ease. Over the years, she also developed a signature hobby: enthusiastically tearing apart her chew toys, only to proudly keep and play with their “unstuffed” versions for years afterward.

While she’s never been a fan of car rides, Bella has always been happiest at home or out on a walk, soaking in the simple joys of familiar surroundings. Her dog bed was once her favorite spot, though these days, jumping into it has become a bit harder.

Now in her golden years, Bella may be slower and more limited in what she can do, but her presence remains just as meaningful. She is a reminder of loyalty, resilience, and the quiet, steady love that only a longtime companion can give.

The West family knows just how lucky they are to have had so many years with Bella—and she’s still right there with them, hanging in and continuing to bring comfort and connection every single day.
