From Arbor Square to Indian Lakes: A Friendship That Found Its Way Home
What began as college neighbors at Texas A&M in the late ’70s turned into a decades-long friendship story—reignited by chance, strengthened through Aggie traditions, and now thriving in Indian Lakes with wine nights, tailgates, pickleball, and a whole lot of laughter.
A Friendship Reconnected by Aggieland Fate
Ann Bodeker and Kim Hagerty first met around 1978–1980 while students at Texas A&M, living in neighboring apartments at Arbor Square. Like many Aggie friendships, it started casually—shared spaces, overlapping social circles, and plenty of time spent together through college life.
After graduation, life pulled them in different directions, and for decades, they didn’t cross paths.
Then came an unexpected moment: a chance seating arrangement at an Aggie football game. Sitting nearby, they reconnected as if no time had passed at all. That reunion led to another surprise discovery—both had built homes in Indian Lakes.
As Kim puts it, “The six degrees of separation in Aggieland is more like two or three degrees. We keep saying that.”
A Life That Feels Like College—But BetterSince moving back into each other’s orbit, Ann and Kim’s friendship has become a full-blown lifestyle of shared experiences, traditions, and a tightly woven social circle.
As Ann jokes, “It’s like we’re back in college—but now we have money and don’t have to study.”
Their days now include:
- Wine parties and girls’ nights
- Tailgating and LOTS of Aggie sports
- Bunco nights with friends
- Pickleball matches and friendly competition
- Biking and hiking through the neighborhood
- Rodeo nights and local events
- Shop trips to Round Top Antique Market
- Traveling support—watching each other’s homes when out of town
- Even “taxi service” runs to the airport when needed
And of course, their husbands are just as connected—especially when it comes to deer hunting trips in the Hill Country.
Expanding Circles, One Celebration at a TimeWhat makes their friendship even more special is how naturally it has expanded. Since moving to Indian Lakes, they’ve blended friend groups, meeting others through different circles and gathering regularly for birthday celebrations and “celebrity girls group” get-togethers.
It’s less about one tight group—and more about a growing web of friendships that always seem to overlap.
In true Aggie fashion, everyone knows someone who knows someone… and somehow, it always turns into a gathering.
Spontaneous, Social, and Always TogetherKim describes their friendship best: “Spontaneous and fun.”
That spirit shows up everywhere—from last-minute wine nights to packed football weekends, from casual bike rides to full neighborhood social calendars.
There’s always something happening—and somehow, Ann and Kim are usually at the center of it.
Full Circle, Aggie StyleFrom dorm-adjacent apartments at Arbor Square to neighboring homes in Indian Lakes, their story is a reminder that some friendships don’t just last—they evolve.
Life separated them once, but Aggieland brought them back together in a way neither expected. And now, instead of remembering college life, they’re living a new version of it—filled with community, connection, and far more entertaining weekends.
Because in their words, it really does feel like college again… just with better wine, better friends, and no exams.
