Milo’s Meant-to-Be Journey

Joe Ramirez and his family have lived in the Settlement at Indian Lakes for 15 years, enjoying the peace, quiet, and friendly spirit of the neighborhood. Now retired, Joe wasn’t planning on adding any additional pets to the household. But sometimes life has other plans—and that’s how Milo found his way into their lives.

Milo, a lively Jack Russell Terrier, first appeared on the Ramirez family’s porch. Skittish and clearly abandoned, he kept his distance until one day he wandered into Joe’s garage, sat at his feet, and let Joe pet him. At that moment, Joe knew Milo wasn’t just passing through—he was home.

What makes the story even more touching is that Joe had once told his kids he always dreamed of having a Jack Russell. When Milo showed up, it felt like more than coincidence—it was as though the timing was meant to be.

Named after the beloved pup from the Jim Carrey movie The Mask, Milo has the same breed and markings as his on-screen namesake. Though the vet estimates he’s around three years old, Milo is full of youthful energy. He’s loyal, protective, and quickly bonded with Joe, following him everywhere. Once he warms up to strangers, he’s all sweetness—eager for head scratches and treats.

Milo has already become part of family traditions. He’ll sit politely for a Chew Stick, then spin in a circle to earn it. One of Joe’s favorite memories came just days after Milo arrived—when the little dog climbed into the recliner to watch football with him, a sign of complete trust.

Milo may have come as a stray, but he has found the perfect home—and in return, the Ramirez family has gained a loyal companion who feels like he was meant to join them all along.
