Sterling, a 10-year-old Silver Labrador Retriever, joined the Murphy family in a truly unforgettable way. In 2016, Mike and Jan attended a charity event supporting Mercy Project, where a live auction featured an adorable, chubby silver puppy as its final item. Jan had already fallen head over heels for the pup and surprised Mike by winning the bid. Sterling came with his name from the breeder, and it suited him so perfectly that the Murphys knew it was meant to stay.

Sterling certainly stands out, not only because of his beautiful silver coat and incredibly soft fur, but also because of his gentle, loving personality. Known for greeting everyone he meets, Sterling’s sweet and friendly nature makes him a neighborhood favorite. He has a playful spirit, especially when it comes to fetch. In true Sterling fashion, though, he prefers to carry his tennis ball while also keeping another toy or object in his mouth — a charming quirk that keeps his family smiling.

When it comes to fun, Sterling loves his tennis balls, ropes, and his beloved rabbit toy. While the Murphys say every day with Sterling feels like a favorite memory, watching him run freely and joyfully never gets old. His backyard is his kingdom, where he spends his time chasing deer, rabbits, birds, and squirrels. He also enjoys spending time with his neighborhood buddy, Gunner, making playtime even more exciting.

Sterling’s adventures often include visits to the family farm, where he gets to stretch his legs and roam without limits. If he could plan his perfect day, it would simply involve going anywhere he can play fetch with someone willing to toss the ball.
