Service, Honor, and Home: The Stinson Brothers’ Next Mission

For brothers Tanner and Tyler Stinson, service didn’t end when they took off their Navy uniforms — it just found a new home. Today, through their company Stinson & Stinson Roofing, the brothers continue to live out the same values they learned while serving their country: honor, courage, and commitment.

Both proud U.S. Navy veterans, Tanner and Tyler spent years far from home, navigating long deployments and learning the meaning of teamwork and accountability. Tanner served aboard the USS George Washington (CVN-73) as an Electrician’s Mate, while Tyler worked as an Avionics Technician with the HSM-49 Scorpions Squadron in San Diego.

Those years at sea shaped them — not just as servicemen, but as men. “In the Navy, your word is everything,” Tanner says. “When you say you’ll do something, people count on you. That mindset stuck with us.”

“In the Navy, if you say you’ll do something, people count on it. That mindset stuck with us.”

A Foundation Built on Faith and Family
Returning home to Texas, the brothers faced a new mission: building something lasting, something rooted in integrity and community. That vision became Stinson & Stinson Roofing, a family- and veteran-owned company grounded in the principles that guided them through military life.

Their mother, who raised them with a strong sense of responsibility and compassion, remains one of their biggest inspirations. “She always told us to help someone every day,” Tyler recalls. “It’s simple, but that’s really what drives us.”

Their sister, Carlee Permenter, is now part of the team, managing operations alongside her brothers. For Tanner, being a father to two daughters, Brynlee and Blake, adds another layer of meaning to the work. “Family is everything,” he says. “When I’m helping another family protect their home, I think about mine.”

“Our mom taught us to help someone every day. That’s what we try to live by — whether it’s a roof repair or just being a good neighbor.”

From Service to Stewardship
After years of serving their country, Tanner and Tyler saw another kind of need back home — one that required the same integrity and attention to detail they had practiced in the Navy.

They noticed how often homeowners struggled to find contractors they could trust. Promises were made and not kept, communication was poor, and people felt left in the dark. That didn’t sit right with the Stinsons.

“We wanted to raise the standard,” Tanner explains. “We may not wear uniforms anymore, but we still have a duty — to serve with honesty, precision, and heart.”

As licensed general contractors, Stinson & Stinson Roofing handles everything from residential and commercial roofing to remodeling and gutter systems. But what really sets them apart isn’t what they build — it’s how they build it: with respect, transparency, and a sense of mission that never left them.

“You don’t stop being part of a team when you hang up the uniform.”

Continuing the Mission Through Community
The brothers also see their business as a way to keep giving back to those who’ve served. They regularly employ fellow veterans, knowing firsthand how difficult the transition to civilian life can be. “Veterans have a unique work ethic and shared sense of purpose,” says Tyler. “They understand what it means to show up — no matter what.”

Beyond hiring, the company supports several local causes that align with their values. They’ve sponsored a golf tournament for the Elk Institute, an organization that helps veterans facing PTSD, and proudly back the Back the Blue Hockey Tournament, which supports the Bryan Police Department and their families.

They also offer discounts for veterans and first responders, a small but meaningful gesture of gratitude. “It’s our way of saying thank you,” Tanner says. “We know what it means to serve, and we want to honor that.”

Facing Challenges the Military Way
Like many small businesses, Stinson & Stinson has faced challenges — from navigating insurance hurdles to competing in an industry where trust is often hard-won. But instead of discouraging them, those challenges have strengthened their resolve.

“When you’ve weathered storms at sea, you learn how to face them on land,” Tyler says with a grin. “You adapt, overcome, and move forward.”

That Navy mindset continues to guide how they lead their team, how they treat customers, and how they define success. For them, it’s not about how many roofs they complete — it’s about how many relationships they build along the way.

Looking Ahead
As Veterans Day approaches, the Stinson brothers are reflective — grateful for their time in service, and equally grateful for the opportunity to keep serving in a new way. “We may not wear the uniform anymore,” says Tanner, “but we still carry those values with us every day. Service doesn’t stop when you leave the military. It just changes shape.”

Their goal is to keep building not only homes, but trust — creating a company that their daughters, their employees, and their community can be proud of for generations to come.

For the Stinsons, every roof represents more than shelter. It’s a symbol of safety, family, and the enduring spirit of service.

Because for these brothers, duty, honor, and integrity aren’t just words — they’re a way of life.
