Cooper: The Treat-Loving King of Indian Lakes

Some dogs are adventurous trailblazers, and some are happiest simply being wherever their family is. Seven-year-old Cooper, the Urban family’s lovable Cavachon, definitely falls into the second category — and his family wouldn’t have it any other way.

Tony, Allison, Nash, and Hayden Urban moved to the Indian Lakes neighborhood in May of 2018 and quickly fell in love with the privacy, towering trees, and beautiful wildlife surrounding their home. Not long after, Cooper joined the family and instantly became the furry heart of the household.

Cooper is a Cavachon — a mix between a Bichon Frise and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel — known for their gentle personalities, love of cuddles, and low-shedding coats. The Urban family found Cooper through a breeder they discovered on Facebook, and from the very beginning, he stood out from the litter. Not only was he the biggest puppy, but he also had a tiny heart-shaped mark on his forehead that completely stole their hearts.
Hayden chose the name “Cooper,” partly because they had heard dogs respond best to two-syllable names — and it turned out to fit him perfectly.
Cooper’s favorite thing in the world is simply being around his people. Whether the family is headed to the mailbox, relaxing in the backyard, taking a car ride, or vacationing in Broken Bow, Cooper is happiest when he doesn’t have to stay home alone. In fact, his enthusiastic greetings are legendary in the Urban household. The moment someone walks through the door, Cooper is there jumping, whining, and begging for hugs, pets, and maybe a treat or two.
And treats are serious business for Cooper.
He proudly considers himself the official guardian of the family’s treat drawer and will patiently — or not so patiently — sit nearby to make sure nobody forgets snack time. His favorites include carrots, mangos, and peanut butter smeared inside a Kong toy. While he enjoys chasing a tennis ball occasionally, he usually decides after a few throws that lounging sounds like a much better plan.
When he’s not supervising snack distribution, Cooper loves spending time in the backyard thanks to his doggy door freedom. He’ll happily float in the family pool during the summer — on his floatie, of course — because despite enjoying the water, he’s “not much of a swimmer.”
And while Cooper may not exactly qualify as a rugged ranch dog, he’s always thrilled to tag along for a ranch trip, a bank drive-thru treat run, or a relaxing boat ride on vacation. For Cooper, the destination doesn’t really matter — as long as he’s with his family.
