Kosal Tredway — Creating Beauty in the Everyday

Resident contributing writer: Kosal Tredway

By day, Kosal Tredway builds relationships and drives impact as an oncology biotech sales executive leader. After hours, she slips into her happiest rhythm—being creative, decorating for every season, and transforming simple finds into something that looks custom.

A resident of Indian Lakes, Kosal is married to homebuilder Chris Tredway of Tredway Custom Homes and is mom to three boys. Known for her sharp eye and “style-on-a-budget” approach, she shares doable DIYs and cozy styling ideas that make homes feel warm, personal, and lived-in.

As a newer resident to Indian Lakes, she loves the relaxed, slower pace and how the neighborhood preserves the natural surroundings. “It’s a great place to call home,” she says.

One of Kosal’s favorite beginner-friendly projects is decoupage—a simple technique that turns everyday objects into keepsakes or meaningful gifts. It works beautifully on oyster shells, ornaments, pumpkins, and even wine or champagne bottles.

Kosal’s Go-To Decoupage Method
Step 1: Prep your item.
 • For bottles: cover labels with painter’s tape.
 • For oyster or clam shells: boil, clean, then soak overnight in a bleach-and-water solution. Let dry completely.

Step 2: Paint the surface.
Apply at least two coats of craft paint, allowing each coat to dry before adding the next.

Step 3: Choose decorative napkins.
Most napkins are two or three-ply—peel off the extra layers so you are left with the single printed layer.

Step 4: Cut to fit.
 • For bottles or ornaments: cut out the printed motifs.
 • For shells: place napkin print-side down, trace the shell shape, and cut slightly larger so it can tuck into the curves.

Step 5: Apply the decoupage.
Brush a thin layer of decoupage medium, place your cutouts, then brush another thin layer on top. It will look wet—don’t worry, it dries clear.

Step 6: Finish the edges.
Once dry, trim any excess napkin. Outline oyster shells with a gold paint pen for a polished, finished look.

Step 7: Seal and enjoy.
Spray with a clear sealant to protect the surface.

Kosal rotates this craft throughout the seasons—Christmas ornaments, spring eggs, fall pumpkins, elegant oyster shells for decorative bowls, or champagne bottles for thoughtful gifts.

If you’re craving a home that feels warm and collected without overspending, Kosal’s approach proves that creativity and intention matter more than price tags.
