Rudy

The Redbone with a Big Personality

For the past five years, Brittney Elmore and her family have enjoyed life on Isle of Hope, where long walks and coastal breezes make every day feel a little more special. But no walk is complete without their four-year-old Redbone Coonhound, Rudy Red Elmore, leading the way—at least until he catches an interesting scent.

Rudy comes from the award-winning Timber Chopper bloodline, but despite his hunting heritage, he prefers to stay home with Brittney rather than venture into the woods with her husband during hunting season. Known for his striking red coat and unmistakable bay, Rudy is equal parts mellow companion and vigilant watchdog. His bark serves as an early warning system for the Elmores, announcing every visitor before they even reach the door.

Named after Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Rudy has a nose just as impressive—especially when food is involved. He can wake from a deep sleep at the mere crinkle of a snack wrapper and has an uncanny ability to tell time when meals are near. He’s mastered sitting and shaking paws, but only when treats are part of the deal.

One of Brittney’s favorite memories with Rudy happened during this year’s rare Savannah snow. As the family walked through Wormsloe, Rudy’s instincts took over, and he bolted into the brush, nose to the ground, in pursuit of an unseen target. Though her daughters panicked, Brittney knew he’d return for the comforts of home. Sure enough, after a few whistles, Rudy emerged from the snow-dusted woods, grinning ear to ear.

These days, Rudy’s adventures are a little more relaxed. He enjoys golf cart rides down the bluff, visits to the Isle of Hope playground, and stopping by to see his favorite neighbor, Mr. Tom, who always has a treat ready. But if Rudy could choose his perfect day, it would be riding back roads in a truck—head out the window, ears flapping, and a pile of snacks by his side.
