Garth, Lillith, and Timmy
Three hopeful hearts waiting for a home
Garth
Isle of Hope resident and Chatham County Animal Services volunteer Kate Hilliker spends her days helping dogs who are still waiting for their families. Among them are three standouts — Garth, Lillith, and Timmy — each with a personality big enough to brighten any home.
Garth, an 8-year-old hound mix, is the explorer of the group. He follows his nose with steady determination, happy to wander, investigate, and take in the world around him. Lillith, a 1-year-old terrier–pit bull mix, is the playful spirit. She’s bouncy, social, and always ready to strike a pose, earning her reputation as one of the shelter’s most photogenic pups. And then there’s Timmy, a 4-year-old large mixed breed with a “chonky” charm. His silly waddle and easygoing nature make him an instant favorite.
All three are available for foster or adoption at Chatham County Animal Services, located just minutes away on Sallie Mood Drive. The shelter is open daily from 1 to 4:30 p.m., except Wednesdays. Visitors often meet these dogs on neighborhood walks, easily spotted by their bright yellow “adopt me” leashes. They enjoy outings around Isle of Hope, exploring Bluff Drive, strolling under the oaks at Wormsloe, and greeting new friends at community events. They’re also known to indulge in a pup cup or two during Doggie Day Out trips.
Kate says treats, toys, peanut butter, and blankets are always welcomed donations that help keep every dog comfortable while they wait for their next chapter. For staff and volunteers, seeing these pups find a home is the most rewarding part of the work.
