205 Parkersburg Road

Honoring the Past, Living in the Present

For Bobby and Liz Davenport, home is more than a place—it’s a statement about preservation, community, and thoughtful design. Their residence at 205 Parkersburg Road is one of six homes in the Parkersville Collection, a distinctive group that reimagined and revived historic structures for modern living.

Their cottage was originally located next to the Methodist church before being elevated and built around in 1989. Rather than chasing perfection, the design embraces the beauty of authenticity. “Excellence and imperfection can coexist,” Bobby says. “This project has helped influence the coastal character of homes across Isle of Hope.”

Inside, locally sourced antiques from Jere’s on Bay Street and original works by Isle of Hope artist Bellamy Murphy lend warmth and character. One painting—depicting a hammock on neighboring Dutch Island—now graces a favorite room.

Outside, the Davenports are partnering with Savannah Victory Gardens to reimagine their landscape. With shallow, sandy soil, they’ve learned to approach planting with care. Their advice to neighbors: know your ground before you dig in.

The home’s location is as cherished as its structure. Steps from the marina and the new school, it’s a place where kids ride bikes with fishing poles in tow—and where three generations gather with ease. “Our access to the water makes this a grandchild magnet,” Liz says with a smile.

As one of local architect Gerry Cowart’s earliest projects, the Parkersville Collection has stood the test of time—just like the values it represents.
