Juliana Burford

Dancing to Her Own Beat

At just 11 years old, Juliana Burford already knows the stage is where she feels most at home. A sixth grader who has lived on Isle of Hope since 2019, Juliana has transformed her love of dance into a full commitment as a member of The Studio Savannah’s competitive team.

Juliana began dancing at age 3 and entered the world of competition in second grade. From duos and trios to full group numbers, she thrives on the energy of performing with friends. Hip hop has become her favorite style—fast-paced, dynamic, and always backed by music that makes her want to move.

Her proudest memory so far came during a competition on Jekyll Island, where she earned first place in both her category and division for a solo routine. “Being on stage is my favorite part,” she said. “It makes all the hard work worth it.”

With classes and rehearsals keeping her at the studio at least four evenings a week, Juliana has learned how to balance school and dance by planning ahead. “My grades are really important, too,” she explained, noting she uses weekends to stay ahead of assignments.

The lessons she’s taken from dance go far beyond choreography. She has learned perseverance, sportsmanship, and the importance of supporting teammates—whether celebrating their wins or encouraging them through tough moments. She credits her dance teachers for their constant guidance and motivation.

Looking ahead, Juliana dreams of one day living in a bigger city like New York or Nashville, where she hopes to combine college with her love of performing. “Being a backup dancer for a country artist would be so much fun,” she said.

Her advice to other young athletes? “Keep working hard at whatever you love and never give up.”
