Sammie Jo Elmore

Finding Her Favorites One Sport at a Time

At just 5 years old, Samantha “Sammie Jo” Elmore already approaches sports with the curiosity and enthusiasm of someone twice her age. A kindergartener at St. James Catholic School, she has lived on Isle of Hope her entire life and fills her days with the joyful chaos of trying nearly every sport she can get her hands on — from soccer and dance to gymnastics, cheer, basketball, and, soon, T-ball.

Soccer currently holds the top spot in her heart. Her interest first took shape at the Sanctuary Child Learning Center, where she joined dance classes and Soccer Shots during the day. Later, at St. James’ Early Learning Center, she continued with Soccer Shots before joining a Tormenta-sponsored soccer club in Pre-K and kindergarten. Her mom, a former college soccer recruit whose own playing days were cut short by injury, has been a steady source of inspiration along the way.

Despite her love of soccer, one of Sammie Jo’s standout memories comes from BC Cheer Camp, where she performed for a crowd and proudly chants, “Get up off that seat, let’s go BC!” to this day.

Balancing school and sports is simple at her age — homework first, then she’s outside practicing whatever sport is in season. Her family describes her as determined, energetic, and quick to support her teammates. She doesn’t quit, listens closely to her coaches, and jumps at any chance to learn something new.

With guidance from Tormenta coaches, the BC Cheer Squad, and now her Sparkle Queens basketball team, Sammie Jo continues to grow as both an athlete and a teammate. She isn’t sure which sport she’ll ultimately choose, but for now, she’s thrilled to try them all.

Her advice for other young athletes? Don’t be afraid to try something new — you may discover exactly what you’re meant to do.
