23 Diana Drive

For Karla Schindler and Jason Anderson, life on Isle of Hope is defined by the simple rhythm of neighborhood life. After more than five years on the island, the couple says the greatest joy comes from the friendships they’ve formed and the everyday scenes that unfold along the streets—neighbors walking dogs, children riding bikes, and golf carts passing by with a friendly wave.

Four years ago, they purchased their cottage on Diana Drive from the Vinall family, longtime owners who had lived there since the early 1950s. During renovations, Schindler and Anderson worked carefully to preserve the home’s original character. Details such as the hardwood floors, vintage 1950s bathroom tiles, and glass doorknobs remain intact, maintaining the charm of the classic white cottage.

Before construction began, the house briefly stepped into the spotlight when a production company rented it while filming The Girl From Plainville, seeking a setting that captured the feel of a grandparents’ home.

Inside, the home reflects Schindler’s personal design philosophy. Crisp white walls allow artwork by friends and souvenirs collected from travels around the world to take center stage. Jewel-toned accents and meaningful keepsakes fill the rooms, creating a colorful and deeply personal interior.

One of the home’s most striking features is the vaulted ceiling in the great room. While remodeling, Schindler discovered a large attic space and decided to open the ceiling, adding natural wood paneling that complements the darker hardwood floors and makes the cozy cottage feel remarkably spacious.

The home also serves as a gathering place for the couple’s blended family, especially during the fall and holiday season when festivities stretch from Halloween festivities on Bluff Drive to Thanksgiving dessert tables filled with gingerbread house creations.

Looking ahead, the homeowners plan to enhance the exterior with porch details, updated siding, and backyard improvements. Schindler’s advice to neighbors is simply to embrace a home’s original character and let its natural style guide every design choice.
