Creek
A Chocolate Lab With a Heart of Gold
For Isle of Hope residents Liz and Reed Ely, life by the water has been even sweeter with Creek by their side. The couple has called the neighborhood home for six years and treasures its walkability, coastal setting, and friendly neighbors. Through it all, their 9-year-old chocolate Labrador has been a steady and beloved companion.
Reed welcomed Creek into his life as a puppy while he was in college, and the 90-pound Labrador has been part of the family ever since. Named for the peaceful woods and waterways he enjoys while hunting, Creek has more than lived up to her name. According to Liz, she brings a sense of calm and comfort wherever she goes.
Though she is a skilled retriever capable of bringing back ducks, doves, and just about anything else she's asked to fetch, Creek's greatest quality has little to do with hunting. Her easygoing personality and affection for people make her seem like a natural therapy dog.
“She loves everyone, gives everything, and asks for nothing in return,” Liz says.
Creek is also surprisingly intuitive. She understands commands, knows to run and find Reed when asked to “go see Dad,” and even knows when it's time to look at the camera. Her favorite snacks are simple ones — blueberries and watermelon rank high on the list.
One memory stands above the rest: Creek accompanied Liz and Reed on their very first date. Even as a young dog, she displayed the gentle manners that continue to define her today.
These days, Creek enjoys daily walks, visits to Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming, and walking past her two Springer Spaniel friends on Cornus Drive. Given the choice, however, she would be happiest enjoying a quiet day on the couch with Liz and Reed or a relaxing boat ride on a crisp fall afternoon.
