British Swim School of Savannah

A Lifesaving Mission in Motion

For Reyes and Alex Maldonado, water safety is more than a business—it’s a calling. As the new owners of British Swim School of Savannah, the couple blends personal passion with professional experience to deliver a program designed to save lives and build confidence, one swimmer at a time.

British Swim School was founded in 1981 with a clear mission: to teach survival skills before stroke technique. The Maldonados bring this philosophy to local families through gentle, goal-based instruction that begins as early as 3 months old. With small class sizes, specially trained instructors, and year-round indoor pools, the school prioritizes safety, trust, and steady progress for swimmers of all ages and abilities—including those with special needs.

What sets the program apart is its commitment to individualized growth. “Children advance when they master critical skills, not just by age,” Alex explains. “That creates a deeper sense of confidence and capability.”

British Swim School partners with local hotels and community centers to offer convenient locations while helping optimize underused facilities. The school also supports the broader community through inclusive programming, early childhood engagement, and job creation.

Securing pool partnerships that meet the school’s high standards hasn’t always been easy, but the results speak for themselves. “Once we get the chance to show what we do, trust and impact follow,” Reyes says.

Looking ahead, the Maldonados are focused on expanding access across Savannah—one neighborhood, one lesson at a time.

As one parent, Ed P., put it: “They’ve exceeded all our expectations. If you’re looking for a swim school that combines excellent instruction with a nurturing environment, look no further.”
