The Coopers' Historic Revival

Nestled at 7502 Central Avenue, Brant and Carrie Cooper’s home stands as a tribute to Isle of Hope’s rich heritage and coastal charm. Having lived in the neighborhood for a decade, the Coopers moved into their re-imagined home in the spring of 2024, bringing a blend of history, modernity, and personal touches to the space.

Originally built in the 1990s, the property carries a unique history. Situated adjacent to the old streetcar path, it was once a popular camping spot for neighborhood kids. From 2022 to 2024, the Coopers collaborated with architect Arcturus and designer Jenny Bernard to transform the structure, maintaining its original footprint while enhancing functionality and aesthetics.

The home’s coastal transitional style bridges traditional Isle of Hope design with modern elements. Inside, family heirlooms are juxtaposed with contemporary furniture, creating an inviting and cozy vibe. Challenges like achieving symmetry with the existing structure and maximizing natural views were resolved with innovative solutions. Highlights include sunset views of Herb Creek, clever storage nooks, a preserved sunroom, and a mantle crafted from wood salvaged from the Coopers’ farm barn, which holds a bayonet discovered in their first downtown property.

Beyond the walls, the home serves as a gathering place for friends and family. From oyster roasts to paddle-boarding adventures on the tidal creek, the property has hosted countless memorable moments.

For those considering a home makeover, the Coopers advise, “Decide on your priorities, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.” The Coopers’ home is more than a residence—it’s a thoughtfully designed space that honors its past while embracing modern coastal living.
