5 Waite Drive
A Coastal Cottage Built for Quiet Living
Set on eight secluded acres in Isle of Hope, the home at 5 Waite Drive reflects both intention and patience. Owner Cliff Cannon built the coastal cottage a decade ago, shaping the property into a place that balances craftsmanship with calm.
Clad in durable Hardiplank siding, the home’s exterior is grounded by an expansive porch and dock finished in ipe wood, chosen for its longevity and rich tone. Inside, reclaimed hardwood floors—200-year-old heart pine—add warmth and history underfoot, lending character that can’t be replicated.
The home’s layout holds a few surprises. Hidden doors blend seamlessly into the walls, while the primary bath offers a spa-like retreat with an oversized shower, dual heated rain features, and a lava stone soaking tub. These thoughtful details elevate the home without sacrificing its relaxed coastal feel.
Transforming the land came with effort, but the result speaks for itself. What was once a rugged goat tract has been shaped into a setting defined by comfort and tranquility, with help from trusted collaborators along the way. One standout personal touch is the greenhouse—now filled with thriving orchids—that began its life as a simple pole barn.
Friday family dinners remain a favorite tradition, reinforcing the home’s role as a gathering place. As for future plans, Cannon is content for now, letting the home stand as it is.
His advice to neighbors: invest wisely outdoors. Premium Hardiplank holds up, he says, while many modern treated lumber products show wear far too soon.
