Dash Rules the House
In Lake Jeanette, the Wilson family’s rescue pup Dash has grown from an anxious shelter dog into a loyal (and very opinionated) protector.
The Wilson family rescued Dashing “Dash” Leon (Burt LEON Reynolds) Wilson from the Salisbury, North Carolina, shelter in May of 2019.
Dash’s previous name was Dozer, and he sadly dealt with a lot of anxiety. However, due to our family’s continued efforts, we were able to make our home his and helped with his anxiety.
Dash is an Australian cattle dog mix, and we think he will be eight in July. (56 in dog years, you old boy!) He is covered in brown swirls and has cream white accents.
One of the things we found out after we got him was that his particular breed is very security-conscious, so if you hear barking sounds while walking by our home, he will be barking while wagging his tail to show he means business.
His recreational activities include claiming my parents' bed, ordering basically everyone around and making them feed him treats, lounging on the deck like a king overseeing his castle, and playing with our other dog for five minutes, then stopping abruptly.
He loves to run at Joyner Elementary, chase after deer and squirrels, then disappear for a minute or two, then pop back up when you’re about to leave.
He LOVES treats and will stand by our pantry, demanding them nonstop. (He trained Daisy, our other dog, to do the same)
He is VERY territorial when it comes to our dad; he will bark nonstop if you approach, then seconds later he will snuggle up to Dad.( It is infuriating) But when that special moment when he is able to let you pet him arrives, he is very sweet and caring and loves to lick your hand.
On the leash, he and Daisy are very bad pullers but have now learned to…not pull as hard.
Dash is one of the best little puppy dogs you will ever meet and will always be our protector.
