The Fishing Club Cast Another Successful Event
Veteran Fly Fishing Event at Lake Quivira: A Day of Fun and Fellowship
This year marked the 8th annual Veteran Fly Fishing event hosted by Frontline Fly Fishing (https://www.frontlineflyfishing.org) at Lake Quivira (https://www.lakequivira.org), a special day for veterans who share a passion for the art of fly fishing. The weather was perfect—sunny skies and temperatures around 50°F, creating an excellent atmosphere for fishing. With the generous support of the LQ Fishing Club, each veteran had a chance to catch a trout, and everyone left with a smile, as every participant reeled in a catch. Some even landed impressive trout over 4 pounds!
The LQ Fishing Club has proudly supported Frontline Fly Fishing, donating 25% of the proceeds from their Fore Fish Golf Tournament each year since its inception. These donations help fund Frontline Fly Fishing’s mission to serve others, particularly veterans. Jim Wise and Rob Barrackman, key figures in the event’s coordination, have built a lasting relationship with the group and have made the event a tradition.
At the event, veterans enjoyed a fun and relaxing day fishing, with snacks and drinks provided by the LQ Fishing Club. For those who wanted to dive deeper into the craft, there was a fly-tying class the following Wednesday, May 7th, open to all ages. During the class, participants learned the intricate art of fly tying and even made their own flies to take home.
With 10 veterans participating this year, it was clear that this event continues to bring joy and camaraderie to all involved. It’s a tradition the LQ Fishing Club looks forward to continuing, and it is clear that the bonds forged through fly fishing are just as strong as the friendships made at Lake Quivira.
Looking ahead, the LQ Fishing Club is excited for their next event: the Fly Tying Class on May 7th at 6:30 pm. This class promises to be another opportunity for the community to come together and learn the timeless craft of fly tying.
Special thanks to Jim Wise, Rob Barrackman, and the LQ Fishing Club for their ongoing dedication to making these events a success.
