For Robert Hayes, owner of Ducks Carpet Cleaning, (https://duckscarpet.com/) this business has never just been about carpets, it’s about people. “This is a customer service company that sells carpet cleaning,” he says simply. And that philosophy is woven into every job his team takes on.

Robert’s story begins in Garnett, Kansas, where he grew up learning the trade from the ground up, literally. With both his father and grandparents in the carpet cleaning industry, Robert was just six years old when he first started helping out. It didn’t take long for the work to become part of who he is. Even when his career briefly took a different turn, working as a consultant for Bridgepoint, helping develop cleaning solutions and training others in the industry, he never strayed far from the world he knew best.

After living in Phoenix, Arizona, for a while, life eventually brought Robert and his wife, Jackie, back to the Kansas City area to be closer to family after welcoming their second child. In 2013, Ducks Carpet Cleaning was born. The name? A nod to a friend’s roofing company in another state, and a reminder to keep things lighthearted and fun along the way.

Today, Ducks operates three crews out of Lansing, Kansas, serving a wide footprint from Leavenworth to Harrisonville and beyond. They’ve built strong relationships with local businesses, including dozens of bank locations, and handle the majority of property management work in Lansing. Still, Robert is quick to point out that their growth has come the old-fashioned way: word of mouth.

What truly sets Ducks apart isn’t just their experience, it’s their approach. Using non-toxic, EPA-safe cleaning solutions that are safe for families and pets, their services include everything from carpet and upholstery cleaning to tile, grout, and carpet repair. But at the heart of it all is a commitment to serving others.

“I am a servant,” Robert shares. “I enjoy cleaning carpets, but I love people. As long as I’m in a van, driving to help someone, I’m happy.”

That servant mindset extends beyond the business, too. Robert and Jackie have been rescuing dogs for over 20 years and currently share their home with two beloved rescue bully breeds. Together, they’ve built a life centered on care, whether it’s for their three children, their community, or the customers they treat like neighbors.

In a small industry where many use the same tools and products, Ducks Carpet Cleaning stands out for something you can’t manufacture: genuine care. And in Lake Quivira and beyond, that makes all the difference.
