The Kurths

When Steven and Vannesa Kurth began searching for a new home, they weren’t just looking for a house; they were looking for a place that reflected this season of life. “We wanted a home where our girls and their friends could gather, where neighbors feel like family, and where being outside, exploring, riding bikes, and enjoying nature, is simply part of everyday life,” they share.

That vision led them to Lake Windcrest, where they’ve now lived for a year and a half. Along with their three daughters, Kaylee (14), Emily (12), and Vanny (9), and their two dogs, Rex and Chase, the Kurths have found exactly what they were looking for: a home filled with connection, laughter, and everyday moments that matter most.

Steven and Vannesa’s story goes back much further than their 15 years of marriage. “We’ve actually known each other since we were 10 years old,” they say. “We grew up together and have been friends since sixth grade.” That lifelong connection has shaped the strong foundation of their family today.

Neighbors may recognize Steven as the owner of Trees 101, a local tree service company. “I’m inspired by the transformation of each property, but it’s really the people behind them that make the work meaningful,” he shares. “I’m grateful for the relationships I build, the stories I get to hear, and the opportunity to help bring each family’s vision to life, all while working among God’s creations every day.”

Vannesa, with a background in finance, is passionate about helping others gain clarity and confidence in their finances while guiding wise stewardship of their resources. At home, that same sense of purpose carries into her role as a mom, where she spends much of her time keeping busy schedules running smoothly, showing up for her girls, and making sure no practice, game, or event is missed.

Life in the Kurth household is anything but slow-paced. Kaylee plays soccer, Emily is on the basketball court, and Vanny stays active with dance and gymnastics. Much of Vannesa’s time is spent in the car, cheering from the sidelines, and making sure each girl feels supported in what they love. As a family, they enjoy being outdoors, mountain biking together, trying local restaurants, and taking the occasional spontaneous trip when schedules allow.

Their story also includes a chapter that has deeply shaped their perspective on life and faith. Nearly 20 years ago, Steven sustained a spinal cord injury from a motocross accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Four months later, he experienced his first sign of movement: a slight motion in his big toe.

Through nearly five years of intensive rehabilitation, Steven gradually regained movement throughout his body and ultimately learned to walk again. “As we approach 20 years since Steven’s injury, our journey continues to be rooted in faith, perseverance, and gratitude,” they share. “It’s a reminder of God’s faithfulness and the power of never giving up. That experience has shaped how we live, how we love, and how we support others.”

Because of that journey, the Kurths feel especially connected to organizations that share the gospel and those that support individuals with disabilities. Giving back in these ways is something that remains close to their hearts.

Above all, the Kurths are most grateful for their family, their health, and the opportunities they’ve been given. As they continue to settle into life in Lake Windcrest, their focus remains on what matters most: being present and creating meaningful memories with the people they love.
