Camille Pollard
Landing flips, scoring goals, and cheering loud
5th-grade multi-sport athlete Camille Pollard has lived in Lake Windcrest for seven years. “I love riding my bike down our long street and back and forth with friends,” Camille says. “And I love going to all our lakes in the subdivision and fishing with my brother.”
Camille shines on both the soccer pitch and the tumbling mat. In soccer, she plays for the Challenge Soccer Club select program as a winger, where she enjoys playing offense, moving the ball up the field with her foot skills and shooting goals for her team. She loves every opportunity to score.
Off the field, Camille was a competitive cheerleader for Woodlands Elite, where she was a flyer and a tumbler for the Apaches. “I love to tumble and take classes at Woodlands Elite, and I’ve perfected my back handspring, back tuck and layout, and I am currently working on my full,” Camille says. “My parents say I never walk anywhere; I’m always tumbling to get somewhere.”
Getting an early start, Camille began tumbling at age 3, soccer at age 3 and a half, and cheer at 8. From the beginning, Camille has loved being part of a team and working with her teammates to support one another, pushing each other to be their very best while never forgetting to laugh and have fun. Her favorite moment with her cheerleading team was qualifying and being invited to attend the Summit Youth Competition in Tampa, Florida.
Though she stays busy with all her activities, Camille always puts school first, working very hard to get all A’s (except for one pesky B) on her report card, a fact of which Camille is proud. Camille says her mom’s mantra, “kick booty and take names,” sticks with her at all times. Even at practice, Camille strives to give her best attitude and effort so she can continue to grow and remain competitive. Along with her mom, Camille credits Coach Mykella and Coach Amber for playing a significant role in her athletic development. “They encouraged us, made us strong ladies, never doubted us, demanded our best, taught us skills and, most importantly, they loved us,” Camille says.
If Camille were to give advice to young athletes in the neighborhood, she would tell them to never give up on their dreams. “Keep dreaming and work hard toward your goals to accomplish them. And always have fun doing what you love!” Keeping this attitude, Camille aspires to play soccer in school, make the junior high and high school cheerleading squads and run track. Beyond athletics, she hopes to attend Texas Tech University. By continuing to dream, work hard and have fun, Camille Pollard is heading toward success. In fact, if you ask her mom and dad, she’ll probably be tumbling there instead.
