Mel’s (and Santa’s) Favorite Sugar Cookies
If you’ve been searching for the perfect sugar cookie recipe, look no further! After testing so many recipes over the years, I finally combined the best parts of each one to create this version - and it’s simply perfect every time!
Ingredients
3 sticks softened butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons extract (I prefer 1 vanilla, 1 almond)
5 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and extracts and mix well.
- In a separate bowl, combine dry ingredients, then slowly add them to the wet mixture in batches.
- Chill the dough before rolling - this helps the cookies keep their shape.
- Roll out on a lightly floured surface and cut into your favorite shapes.
- Bake at 400°F for 6–8 minutes, just until the edges start to turn golden.
- Cool, decorate (if you like), and enjoy!
