Wagging Tails and Tackling Trails for Autism
Karen Warmund highlights the Wags on the Water charity event put on by Beta Sigma Phi Alpha Eta, which raises money for autism by going on a 3k walk with pups.

Wags On The Water was put on by the Beta Sigma Phi sorority Alpha Eta chapter on October 5. Karen Warmund was the chair and inspiration behind this wonderful event. She has lived at Lake Winnebago for four years with her husband, Sandy. They are proud owners of Chip, a German shorthaired pointer and Rover an English springer spaniel. Chip was rescued last February from the Humane Society in Western Kansas. The two pups love the lake life. Karen’s family enjoys walking their dogs and spending time at the lake. So why not get the community involved and start walking their dogs for charity? … And the idea of Wags On The Water was born.
On October 5, the Wags on the Water fundraiser took 75 participants — human and canine — around the lake for a 3k walk to raise money for Paws4Autism.
“The organization trains support dogs to work with children with autism,” Karen shares. “The day of the walk, we had a member from the organization with a 9-month-old support dog in training. She helped us kick off the walk!”
Karen is acting chair for the walk, and Chip was this year’s grand marshal.
Vendors like The Fix coffee and a breakfast truck, as well as pet vendors and a free pet photographer. Everyone involved has a passion for animals and children, making the event a true success. Karen is excited for this new annual event to commence!
