Meet Shelby, a spirited Belgian Malinois who found her forever home with us in 2021 after being rescued by a local group. Now approximately five and a half years old, Shelby may not be the typical energetic Malinois due to severe hip dysplasia in both hips, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying life. She still loves to play fetch and take short strolls around the neighborhood on pleasant days. One of her favorite games is when the kids hide her tennis ball under themselves, and she uses her nose to lift them up to find it. We affectionately call her our 75-pound lap dog, as she adores snuggling with the family. My kids often joke that Shelby is just like Olaf from Frozen, loving warm hugs, as she often nudges her nose under your arm for a cozy embrace. While she’s a prolific drooler, she’s also been known to sneak a lingering cheese stick or piece of meat when no one’s watching. Despite her condition, Shelby has brought endless love and joy into our lives.
