Petersen Men
In this special issue of Ledgeview Living, we get to celebrate fathers. We took the awesome opportunity to speak with the Petersen family. Typically, we run one family at a time, but in this instance, we separated the men and the women to learn about mothering and fathering as an intergenerational family in the Ledgeview community. Please enjoy this article by Bill and Chris Petersen.
What is it like being a dad in Ledgeview?
Chris: It’s great! Ledgeview is a great place to raise a family and connect with the community. We’re thrilled to be a part of it.
Bill: It’s a great community. Given our large yard, it can feel like we’re living in the country, but there is still a city atmosphere with lots to do. We’re also close to work, which is convenient.
What is important about being dads in a multigenerational family?
Chris: My wife and I made the decision to stay close to home and live near both our parents. It’s great to be so close together and that our kids get to spend time with their grandparents.
Bill: I was born and raised with my grandparents living next door, and they were my favorite people. Now our grandkids live close, and it's really important to us.
Chris: It's also handy to drop the kids off every now and again! Seriously, though, it's such a special thing to live so close together.
What do you like to do as a family?
Bill: We have a cabin in Northern Wisconsin. We like to do all the normal cabin things there, like spending time outdoors and boating. We're usually there every weekend April-October unless there is an event we need to attend at home.
Chris: We like going on vacations, playing golf, and going out to eat. We have a few food connoisseurs in the family. We recently traveled to Alaska and Vancouver. We go to Florida every year. It's nice to get people out of their regular environments, and you can learn a lot about people that way. Traveling together means we get tips and tricks from the prior generation, and that is good, too!
What did your dad teach you?
Bill: Work hard, play hard, fish a lot. We're big believers in hard work.
Chris: Work ethic and dedication to whatever you're doing. Carve out time for what is important.
Do you have any advice for neighbors new to Ledgeview?
Chris: Welcome! This is a great place to raise a family. It's truly a community-centered place.
What are you doing when you're not in the office?
Chris: Carving out time for travel, golf, to going up north. We're really getting busy with kids' sports and chasing them around the neighborhood.
Bill: We're traveling in the cooler months and going to the cottage in the summer. Of course, we're also seeing the grandkids.
What is a little-known fact about your family?
Chris: We're big sports fans. We LOVE to watch sports. It's the other big piece of our life.
