Meet the Dynamic Duo, Denver Rey and Dakota Bear
If loyalty had a face, it would look a lot like Denver Rey and Dakota Bear, two beautiful rescue dogs who bring nonstop love and laughter to the Estes family home. Together, they are proof that second chances can lead to the happiest of endings.
Denver Rey, a five-year-old German Shepherd and Bulldog mix, joined the family first. She was adopted as a puppy at just eight weeks old from the Kentucky Humane Society. “She is a big baby,” her family shared fondly. “She loves her humans fiercely and can sense how each of us is feeling.” Denver’s favorite things include snuggling, going on walks, visiting the lake house, and playing chase with her fur sister Dakota. And when it comes to special treatment, nothing beats belly rubs and ice cream.
Her story, however, began with both joy and heartbreak. Denver was adopted alongside her litter sister, Dallas Anne. When Dallas passed away, Denver became deeply depressed. Wanting to help her heal, the family adopted Dakota Bear from the Kentucky Humane Society, and the two bonded instantly.
Dakota Bear, a six-to-seven-year-old pure German Shepherd, came into their lives shortly after having a litter of puppies. “She struggled to get along with other dogs but immediately bonded with Denver,” Rebecca said. Dakota is known for her gentle nature and her guardian instincts. She wants to be with her people at all times and is happiest when she’s close by.
When she’s not keeping watch, Dakota can usually be found soaking wet. “She is obsessed with water,” her family laughed. “If the irrigation system comes on in the back, she’s out there playing until it shuts off.”
Together, Denver and Dakota are a perfect pair. Denver brings endless affection and loyalty, while Dakota adds a playful, water-loving spirit to the mix. Both share a love for ice cream, adventure, and their humans, who feel lucky to have found not just one, but two best friends through rescue.
With wagging tails, muddy paws, and hearts full of love, Denver Rey and Dakota Bear are living their happily ever after — side by side.
