Peru Peruvian and Latin Cuisine: A Taste of Heritage and Heart in Middletown, Kentucky
Nestled in the heart of Middletown, Peru Peruvian and Latin Cuisine brings a flavorful and heartfelt culinary experience blending authentic Peruvian recipes with the diverse cultural influences that have shaped Peru’s culinary identity to Louisville’s east end. The newly opened, family-owned restaurant is already turning heads with its vibrant mix of authentic Peruvian flavors, warm hospitality, and live weekend music that invites guests to linger and enjoy.
At the heart of this restaurant is the Valera family — José, who was born and raised in Peru; his wife, Lilly, from Puerto Rico; and their son, Alejandro, who helps bring their shared vision to life. Together, they have built not just a restaurant, but a celebration of culture, perseverance, and family.
Alejandro Valera, who grew up immersed in his parents’ love for food and community, proudly describes the restaurant’s eclectic approach to Peruvian cuisine. “A little bit of Japanese, Creole, a little bit European, German — all that great stuff mixed, dude. A lot of potatoes, a lot of corn,” Valera said.
This diversity of influence reflects Peru’s rich culinary history — a blend of indigenous ingredients and global inspiration. From fresh ceviche and hearty seco de carne to flavorful rice dishes and rich sauces infused with Peruvian peppers, every plate tells a story generations in the making.
But for the Valera family, Peru Peruvian and Latin Cuisine is about more than food — it is about legacy.
“I think it is a privilege. Sometimes we have hard days, good days, and just to see my parents go through that and encourage them to continue is a beautiful aspect of that,” Valera shared.
As a first-generation American, Alejandro says watching his parents work tirelessly to achieve their dream of owning a restaurant is deeply humbling. “It is humbling. I cannot ask for anything else. I feel honored, humbled, and I like to give as much back as I can,” he said.
Now open six days a week, Peru Peruvian and Latin Cuisine offers a relaxed and inviting atmosphere where guests can enjoy authentic Latin flavors and the warmth of true family hospitality. On Saturdays and Sundays, the restaurant comes alive with live music — a joyful reflection of the Valera family’s love for community and celebration.
With its combination of generational recipes, cultural pride, and heartfelt service, Peru Peruvian and Latin Cuisine stand as a shining example of the American dream — one delicious dish at a time.
